Meet Lily Wilder: New Yorker, lawyer extraordinaire, blushing bride. And totally incapable of being faithful to one man.      Lily's fiancé Will is a brilliant, handsome archaeologist. Lily is sassy, impulsive, fond of a good drink (or five) and has no business getting married. Lily likes Will, but does she love him? Will loves Lily, but does he know her? As the wedding approaches, Lily's nights--and mornings, and afternoons--of booze, laughter and questionable decisions become a growing reminder that the happiest day of her life might turn out to be her worst mistake yet.      Unapologetically sexy with the ribald humor of Bridesmaids, this joyously provocative debut introduces a self-assured protagonist you won't soon forget.… (meer)

I liked this! I got a bit tired of all the philosophizing about marriage and monogamy after a while, but I enjoyed the characters. It's weird how Lily's sleeping around is presented as a big issue, but not her drinking or doing drugs. I mean, by the other characters or the text itself. It was also interesting to me that these people just always had cocaine. Like, you could just ask for some and someone would produce it. I don't think I have any friends like that. Anyway, fun read! I did not foresee the twist with Will!

I meant to say the part about Lily checking her phone/email during a deposition bothered me the most of all her actions. So unprofessional and seemed out of character for her. ( )

This one gets a bonus star only because the character stops being quite as appalling in the last third of the book. Otherwise it was a 2 star. I only finished because I had heard it was a kind of female perspective I likely hadn't read before. Now I think there's a reason... If this is the way women will achieve sexual freedom, please Count me out. Drunken infidelity is not freedom, it's irresponsible. Show me a heroine who is making an actual choice to avoid monogamy (sex and the city) and I'll be happy. ( )

Not sure where I got the recommendation to read this book. A chick lit, beach book. It is pretty exaggerated in trying to make it's point. ( )

These characters are the absolute worst, but ironically I found it extremely hilarious at some points....so that's where the 2 stars come from. ( )

It's a week before Lily's wedding. She's having her hen party in New York, the day before heading home to Florida to finish off the wedding preparations. She's flirting with a hot guy in the bar, when she gets a phone call from her boss - she needs to get to the office now. When she gets to the office her boss tells her she needs to spend some of her week in Florida doing deposition prep for a key witness in a big corporate fraud case (Lily's law firm is defending the corporation). After that conversation they hop onto the sofa for a quick shag, clearly not for the first time. Perhaps it's not surprising that when Lily gets to Florida, her mum and stepmothers all try and convince her that she's not ready to get married yet.

This book was such a strange mix. About 80% of it was a sparky, feminist, sex-positive romp - bubblegum, but enjoyably so. Lily is tremendously likeable and it's great to have a heroine who is unembarrassed about her physical desires and knows how to get what she wants. So WHY OH WHY OH WHY did the author have to completely undermine this with a couple of terrible choices - first of all, it turns out that Lily has a Terrible Tragedy in her past which she has never come to terms with - could this be the reason why she Has To Have Sex With All The Men? And the ending of the story dissolves weakly into a sugary traditional romance. So frustrating. If only the author had had the courage not to do these two things, this could have been a great beach read. ( )
