"I want to know you, to understand anything at all about you, because you are the most maddening lady I have ever encountered."

He's the perfect gentleman...
After years hidden away from the mockery of the ton, proud Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, is finally ready to face Society again. But when his horse is injured on the road to London, Andrew finds himself literally thrown at the feet of the beautiful, infuriating, and undeniably eccentric Katie Moore.

...she's anything but a lady.
Katie always preferred the stables to society, so when she was badly injured in a riding accident, she was more than happy to retreat to the countryside and give up the marriage mart for good. She never expected an infuriatingly proper lord to come tumbling into her lifeā??and she certainly never expected to find herself wondering what it would be like to rejoin the world at his side. They couldn't be more different, and soon Andrew and Katie find themselves at odds about everything but the growing passion between them...and a keen awareness of a threat that may end their unconventional romance before it has even begun.

Praise for Elizabeth Michels:
"Historical romance devotees will enjoy Michels's adoring use of some of the classic tropes of the genreā??the spare heir, the wrong brother as hero, the heroine in men's clothing ā?? but what makes the book so enjoyable is the way Michels makes the familiar fresh."ā??SARAH MACLEAN, The Washington Post for The Infamous Heir
"Rich with wit and charm."ā??Publishers Weekly on How to Lose a Lord in 10 Days or Less
"Michels' fresh and funny debut will delight readers with its endearing characters and infectious mix of sweet yet sexy romance and realistic yet wry wit."ā??Booklist Online STARRED on Mu

This is the third book in Tricks of the Ton series and by far my favorite, yet still I found it lacking in characterization, which to me is more important than the plot of the stories I read. If I care for the couple, Iā€™m pretty much willing to overlook a weak plot. In this case, I did care for this couple more than I did for the previous two, and that, my bookworms, is saying a lot. At least these two had some sparks flying, although even that couldnā€™t save this story from being populated by too many forgettable characters.

Let me put it this way. ... thanks for jumping to b2b to finish my review ...

You can read this one as a standalone, it works. But yes it is book 3 and we have met them both before. With Katie it was an aha moment. But Andrew I remember well.

Oh Andrew. In book 1 I was on the hero and heroine's side, even if they did something bad. Now I realised how bad and really felt for him. Poor poor Andrew. In an era when appearance was everything he was humiliated and fled the country. And after a year in exile he is back and the book can start.

Andrew loves horses. He grows in this book too when he realised that no, appearances is not everything.

Katie is, oh she is different. She dresses in pants (which Andrew is not happy about). She lives alone in a cottage and she is just, different. Together they make no sense, which means they make perfect sense :)

So all while these two slowly are getting to be friends, and then falling in love, something sinister is going on. Someone is after Andrew, but why? You will find out.

Love, suspense and a different couple ( )

Rarely do I finish a romance novel and think to myself, "Well, that relationship's doomed." But, that's exactly what I thought when finishing this novel. The heroine's quirkiness will become embarrassing and Andy's uptightness will become controlling when Katie and Andy return to civilization. What each of them can tolerate and find charming in their isolated idyll will look very different in the harsh light of reality. So, while the romance was charming, it's never going to last.

Plus, villain-y villain who is villainous for no real reason (some vague financial misfortune), a connection to the heroine that seems forced for the sake of story, henchmen, a plot to blow up a dam, a treasure map to hidden gold, a heroine with a fear of horses and an injured horse who both overcome their obstacles in order to rush to the hero's rescue...It's straight-up melodrama, y'all. (There's also a pet squirrel who is seen active only once during the course of the novel and then is only seen curled up "sleeping" in the corner. I began to think that Mr. Rumples was sleeping with the angels.)

Readable and charming while you're in it, but doesn't hold up to thinking about. ( )

HOW TO LOSE A LORD IN 10 DAYS OR LESS by Elizabeth Michaels is a witty Regency Historical Romance. #3 in the "Tricks of the Ton" series, buy can be read as a stand alone. See,"Desperately Seeking Suzanna" and "Must Love Dukes".

This is Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, who has been hidden away for a year in Scotland, due to being made a mockery in front of the ton. And the eccentric, lonely Lady Katherine Moore's (Katie) story.

Witty, and fun but intriguing and suspenseful! Ms. Michaels has written a tale that is captivating, entertaining, passionate and compelling all at once. How can that be, you ask, well first of all Katie is a lonely, eccentric and witty, who loves horses, has had an accident that left her with a limp or did it? And Andrew (Andy) left England due to being made a mockery by none other than, his friends, over a horse race, who is lonely, handsome as the devil and is needed at home. Oh, did I mention, someone is threatening his family's estate, and his valuable horses? And trying to get rid of him along the way.

Fast paced and filled with secrets, danger, witty banter between the hero and heroine, passionate kisses, and a unconventional romance. Oh yes, sparks fly. A lively romp through Regency England's countryside with a bit of danger, sensual tension that leads to so much more than a quick romp in the hayloft. Another masterpiece for Ms. Michaels. "The Tricks of the Ton" is a lively series to say the least. A great entertaining read with a bit of danger and lots of romance. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

...must love horses!

I well remember the scene in Must Love Dukes where Devon the mad Duke of Thornwood blackmails his now wife Lily, into slipping some herbs to Lord Amberstall's prize horse just before a race, causing havoc. Andrew's horse loses the race, Andrew loses face and reputation before the ton and repairs to Scotland, all his dreams of owning the finest stud in the land broken. Now that little episode has come home to roost. Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, 'famous horse breeder and gentleman' is on his way home after a twelve month absence amongst the sheep in Scotland.
He is returning in answer to a plea from his mother. All is not well. There are confusing reports of mishaps, treachery and missing horses at home. Unfortunately, en route he is tracked by thieves or worse, takes a fall and both he and his horse end up recuperating at the home of Katie Moore, daughter of the Earl of Ormsbey, whose family estate borders Thornwood's, Andy's nemesis.
Andrew is rescued, well blackmailed really, by Katie, a strange and interesting young woman, who lives by herself in a cottage on the family estate. We have met her fleetingly before in Must Love Dukes. A wild and unconventional young thing who strides around the estate in breeches, she is just as puzzled by Andrew as he is by her. The reluctant attraction between them becomes all that more delicious. It fairly hums as their lives take strange and unguessed at turns.
Andrew seems dogged by disaster, or is it something more sinister than that? Just how does Katie figure in all this?
An enjoyable read!
