A cute sibling story, Eva and Sadie and the Worst Haircut EVER! was journalist Jeff Cohen's debut picture-book, and was apparently inspired by a real occurrence involving his daughters. I appreciated the fact that Sadie's mistake results in consequences (a concept singularly lacking in some children's books these days), but that it doesn't destroy her loving bond with Eva. The artwork, done by illustrator and animator Elanna Allen, is colorful and cute. Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books about sisters and/or haircuts. ( )

This realistic fiction is about Sadie and Eva, they are sisters and decide that little sister Eva needs a hair cut. Sadie takes it upon herself to cut her little sisters hair. This causes a bit of trouble when Eva is so excited that she runs down to show mom and dad. Sadie gets a small punishment and Eva goes in for a real hair cut by a hair dresser. The girls learn that they need to let the grown ups decide on hair cuts and that they really enjoy Eva's new short hair cut.
I worry this book will give children the idea to cut their little brother or sisters hair?? But I do think it is a cute story that children can relate to (especially girls). I think that the illustrations are very cute. ( )

Eva and Sadie and the Worst Haircut Ever is a good contemporary realistic fiction book because it uses descriptive words to describe the real daily life between sisters. The characters in this book are relatable and what they do is plausible, such as Sadie cut hair for Eva because she think Eva’s hair is too long, to curly and too much of a bother, and she want to give Eva a new haircut. But at the end, Eva got a strange haircut but she still like it. The arts in this book are water-colored and mostly primary colors.
Uses: This book is for kindergarten children
This fun picture book can shows children a happy family and lovely sisters. ( )
