~ Houses Under the Sea by Caitlín R. Kiernan - DNF
The opening ... The narrator says "I close my eyes" and then she offers a memory I assume. Then the next paragraph "I close my eyes" and another memory. On and on. Welp, when did she open them? How many times can a person close their eyes without opening them? I am joking, I understand she is having flashes of memories.
I didn't get very far before deciding to research the story better. That is when I learned about the Lovecraftian connection.
"... no one, absolutely no one, has contributed such a body of brilliant and profoundly original work to the Mythos as has Caitlín R. Kiernan." http://www.centipedepress.com/horror/housesunderthesea.html
Wow I didn't know that. So I need to shelf this and re-visit someday in the future. I've never read any Lovecraft and I don't think I want to start here.
