New Small Homes presents a selection of apartments, single-family homes, lofts, bungalows and cabins that are limited in size, but strategically designed to create a spacious environment out of a small area. The projects all occupy less than 1,000 square feet, and reflect the creativity and original designs of contemporary architects who demonstrate uncommon mastery and expertise. The homes were chosen because they provide practical solutions to the problems that accompany a lack of space. Such useful and functional tactics are summarized at the end of each chapter and in the descriptive text that accompanies each project. Following an extensive illustrated introduction, the book presents more than 20 homes from all parts of the world. Each project is covered in four to eight pages preceded by a descriptive text specifying the objectives of the clients and designers, as well as the aesthetic aspects. This is followed by full-color photographs, plans and sketches that pictorially describe every corner of the house. The last page of each chapter examines the architectural expression and the brilliant, practical solutions that make the home a unique, imaginative project. The book is an essential guide for design professionals and those who want to learn ingenious tricks for getting the most out of a small space.… (meer)
