Prequel novella in the Giordano Bruno series.

Not much of a mystery, really, more of a look at Bruno's background.

Since Bruno repeatedly swears never to tell anyone what happened, I felt there should be a framing story to justify this 1st person narrative. (

This short story is a prequel to the author's series of four (so far) Tudor murder mysteries featuring the fugitive Dominican priest Giordano Bruno. This features Bruno as a young man starting out in the abbey, but already doubting Catholic orthodoxy, when he gets involved with a murder of a local girl. It's hardly a murder mystery as the culprit is clear from an early point, but it's as well written as her fuller length novels in the series. (

This is a very short short story featuring SJ Parris's 16th century heretical philosopher-detective-spy, Giordano Bruno. It is a prequel to the series, taking place in 1566, when Bruno is a novice of 18. A medical monk with a thirst for knowledge takes Bruno under his wing - and this leads to the illegal dissection of the body of a young woman, whose mysterious and violent death form the basis for subsequent events.
