Autumn is devastated when her family has to move to Florida. Her father has died and left behind a journal for her. The journal seems to have the power of granting wishes. With this new power, Autumn has to deal with making good choices. She crushes on Sean, interacts with mean girls, and makes some good new friends. (

Autumn Falls is a realistic fiction book about Autumn whose father dies unexpectantly and she and her mom and sister have to move to Florida to take care of Dad's mother.

Autumn finds two great friends on her first day of school in Florida--Amalita and JJ-- and even meets a love interest, Sean. Of course, she starts the first day with a huge bump on her forehead, so she feels self-conscious and becomes perfect bait for Sean's best friend, Reenzie who doesn't like that Sean is talking to Autumn. Life is definitely difficult without dad and living in a new world. When visiting her grandmother, Autumn receives a journal that her grandmother said her father wanted her to have. Autumn is stunned and suspicious because her grandmother has a few loose marbles and her dad knew that she doesn't like to write because she's dyslexic. Nevertheless, she decides to write out her feelings only to discover that things mysteriously come true when she writes.

As school progresses, Reenzie gets meaner and meaner, trying to get Autumn in trouble. Needless to say, students aren't lined up to become friends with someone who does such mean things even though Autumn denies everything. Writing in her journal helps her deal with these issues, but wishes can backfire.

This novel is fun and brainless--it's a great novel to read on a rainy afternoon when you just want to relax and not think about much and only be entertained. If you are expecting great writing or a thoughtful philosophy on life, you will be disappointed. (
