Brennan, Hart and Corin were the three Cheysuli sons of Niall, ruler of Homana, and the next link in the generations-old prophecy of the Firstborn. Now the time had come for all three to take the paths for which they were fated: Brennan, heir to the throne of Homana, would face the menance of unknown assassins and trecherous Ihlini magic. Hart, Brennan's younger twin, must journey to Solinde, the kingdom which would one day be his to rule--a land that longed to see the Cheysuli prince overthrown. This is the first book in the series in which there is more than a single viewpoint provided by the author. That, in and of itself, makes the book interesting. Additionally, with three main characters, there is a realized potential for conflict between the three - both early in the book to provide a wedge that Strahan uses to convert them, and at the end when we don't know if blood loyalty will remain or if self-preservation will cause brother to turn against brother.
I enjoyed this one. Not quite as much as Donal's book, but it was still a very solid effort. ( )
