This book tells about dogs and their wonderful noses. It explains how dogs see the world through their noses (much like Spunky explained in Spunky Tells All). The book includes information about lots of different dogs and how they use their noses for jobs. Dogs can sniff humans out of an avalanche, detect contaminated water, alert humans with illnesses, and even sniff out different kinds of dung! They and their noses truly are amazing!

This book is about dogs and their good scent of smells. Dogs, which are ancestors to wolves are naturally adapted to live with humans and to be our friends. As humans see the world with their eyes, dogs see the world with their nose. There were many types of dogs in the generations like hunting dogs, hearing dogs, and many more. During World War 1 both sides used Red Cross Dogs to locate wounded soldiers by scent and bring them to medical aid. In World War 2 dogs served as messengers, scouts, and guards on military bases. Their noses helped them find their way and to recognize enemies. In Iraq and Afghanistan, dogs uses their noses to sniff out bombs, which saved many lives during wars. Dogs have such a good smell that when you order a pizza a dog can sniff out every ingredient that’s on the pizza. Dogs first learn basic commands like sit and stay and are taken to busy places to get use to crowds and loud noises. To train the dogs the trainers put a scent in a box or item and the dogs have to sniff out which box or item the scent is in. Dogs can sniff out medical problems in people like allergens and a person’s breathing. If you have a disease somewhere in your body dogs will sniff at that area to let you know something is wrong. Dogs have very good talents and each dog’s talent is different.

I gave this book a 41/2 because I like dogs and this book was a good book on telling how dogs noses work. I also like how dogs can sniff out every ingredient in a food. I think this book is interesting also because dogs are like super heros, they helped and saved so many lives in wars and in public. Dogs keeps us from danger and can tell us when people are around your house. They don’t only use their noses to help us but they also use their ears to listen for noises that might be somewhere. ( )

This book talks about all the different types of jobs dogs have using their amazing sense of smell. Dorothy shows the hard work of the dogs, their training, and their companionship with their owners.

This book was really informative but really boring and text heavy. I got bored just a few pages in and the font/page color was really hard for me to read. There was a lot of good information but I do not know that it is a sit down and read type of book (unless you just love service dogs). ( )

I learned a lot while reading this book about how dogs use their noses to help humans. There is A LOT of writing on each page so it may be a bit overwhelming to some readers. The red color of the pages also makes it difficult to read without hurting your eyes. However, the information is solid and the pictures (with their captions) help the reader understand the concepts. I think this book would be great for a reference on a report about dogs. It may be a good book to read aloud too as an example of what to look for in a non-fiction book. ( )
