This was a very enjoyable book about a third grade classroom getting ready for one of their favorite authors to come and visit their classroom. The students are so excited that Amanda Drakes the author is coming to see them in their classroom, that they prepare many things for her. They decorate the classroom, prepare cakes for her, and made sure to read as many books that they could that were written by her. When Amanda Drakes finally arrived they all had a great time together and really enjoyed her company. One student asked if she would write a book about her visit to their school, and so she did. I really enjoyed this book because of its rhyming theme and energetic illustrations. I also really liked how the story ended up being the story “Amanda Drakes” wrote about her visit to the school. I think students would really like this book and find it a fun story to read. ( )

This is book written in poetry about an author that is visiting Third Street School. The students are very excited to meet this author. The author name is Amanda Drake. In order to prepare, the students read all of Amanda Drakes books and hung up a banner to welcome her. Ms.Drake finally gets to their school and she talks to the students, reads to the students, and tells them about her life. The students then ask Ms.Drake to write a book about their class. Ms. Drake agrees and you find out that the book you are reading is the book that she promised the students that she would write. This book is interesting, but I don't know what students can learn from it except being a author is a exciting job. ( )

I would love to read this to first or second grade. I love how some words rhyme and there is a beat the reader should follow. This is a fun and happy book that children would love. They can relate to getting the classroom ready and getting excited for a visitor to come. I liked how the ending told us that the book that Amanda Drake wrote about the class was actually the book that we are reading. ( )

This story is a narrative, with a student telling the story. His class is expecting their favorite author to visit their class. They start getting ready for her visit by reading as many of her books as they can. They make decorations, a cake and lemon aide for their special guest. The teacher reminds them it is okay to ask questions but to stay away from questions like “how much money do you make”. The day for her to come finally arrives, she reads to them, answers their questions, and interacts with the students and their classroom pets. As she begins to leave, she encourages the students to write their own stories and she will write a book about her visit.
Personal reflection:
I like the illustrations in this book; you can sense the excitement in the students and the energy of the visit of their favorite author. The illustrations support the storyline. I also like how the story encourages the kids to come up with their own stories.
Extension ideas
I would like to have a guest come and visit the class, does not have to be an author, it could be a doctor or some other professional, it could be any adult. Then I would have them write a short story about the visitor.
I would also have them illustrate the story. ( )
