"This book is intended as an aid for family and local historians seeking to expand their knowledge through land records. With two separate systems still operating within Victoria there is confusion about where records may be found and what they may contain. It is hoped that this book will define the boundaries for the researcher and give some idea of what may be achieved through searches in the records of the Registrar General's Office and the Land Titles Office. In addition, correspondence between the government of the day and the purchaser or lessee of crown land provides a goldmine of personal information not to be found in the legal dealings relating to land held by the abovementioned offices. This historical material has come to rest within the Public Record Office of Victoria and there is no consolidated index to this material. The problem of searching archival material would in itself provide material for a very large textbook ; this book is intended only to point the reader in the right general direction ..." -- Introduction.
