This collection of short stories shines light on the darker sides of humanity. The stories are very short and tend to be little episodes in the lives of the characters involved. One story is about Cinderella’s stepmother. Another focuses on a woman who gets migraines which trigger memories of her unhappy childhood. There is a story about a woman who cannot use her legs but she learns how to swim, and this makes her free. I confess that I didn’t catch on that some of the stories interweave until I was already about three-quarters of the way through the book. Once I figured that out, the book seemed a little more interesting, but on the whole I found the stories too depressing. It just wasn’t my cup of tea, or perhaps I should say, not my glass of milk. Several stories which depict slices of people's life.
A thought-provoking and clever look at how people handle situations. D.K. Cassidy has done a fabulous job of getting these stories on the page.

Quick read. Loved the way the author approached each topic. Made me think. Highly recommend. ( )

To say that "Spilt Milk" is brilliant is an understatement. This IS great writing! "Spilt Milk" is a collection of short stories, intricately interwoven in a unique and tantalizing way, keeping the reader endlessly enthralled. The prose is sparse and somehow 'just right' - no wasted hyperbole here.

I usually eschew short stories - my preference being for that big fat book that lasts a long time. However, Ms. Cassidy's collection is so amazing that an eBook just isn't enough. This is one I want on my bookshelf and, to that end, I have just ordered the paperback.

This work is most highly recommended - if I could, I would give it 6 stars! We'll be hearing a lot about Ms. Cassidy in the future, I am sure!

I judge a good book by how long the stories will stay in your mind after you read the book, and this book will definitely stay with me forever! It’s a book that needs to be read more than once. When I read the description on Goodreads, I wasn’t too wild about it, but looking at the reviews it had all 5 star reviews, so I decided to give it a try. It was AMAZING! Spilt Milk is a collection of 12 different stories and only about 100 pages. I took a few days to read it, so I could have time to really absorb and think about each story, although, you could read this book in only a couple of hours. Some characters end up crossing paths which makes it even more interesting. Two characters, George and Caleb, appear numerous times. The stories are dark, disturbing, and twisted. You know these people are extremely MESSED up, but having a look into their daily lives and how they think is so intriguing. Another really disturbing/awesome thing about this book is that you could potentially know any of these characters in real life! The characters seem normal on the outside to the public, but in truth border on evil. It’s so hard to believe that this is D.K. Cassidy’s debut novel! I will definitely read anything she writes!! ( )
