( ) Only a week into his job as hall monitor and class protector, Sam Graves and his friends Lucy and Antonio are trying to uncover the secrets of Eerie Elementary, their living and malevolent school--and then Lucy gets eaten by her locker. This is an early chapter book in the Branches line, for newly independent readers. These books will be a good stepping stone to more advanced chapter books, with their fun stories and illustrations on every page. In the previous book, we found out that Eerie Elementary has evil power. Sam is a hall monitor, and feels a responsibility to protect his friends from the school. When Lucy is eaten by a locker, he and Antonio go deep under the school to rescue her. They survive some scary events, and eventually all make it out, finally understanding why the school is evil. But now they need to figure out how to fix the problem… I assume that part will be figured out in the third book. Early chapter book readers (both boys and girls) will find this a fast, exciting and fun read! Therefore, i would definitely read this aloud, or provide it as an independent read for students 1st grade through 4th or 5th grade. This would be an excellent book especially for students who may be considered "below grade level" and not able to read extensive chapter books, this would be a great book for them! It looks just like a chapter book but it has easier text, high interest information, fast-paced plots, and still has lots of illustrations! This will help students stay engaged in the text and would truly help them grow in reading new books that are perhaps more difficult later on. I really loved reading this book and although this was a quick read it was a really interesting and fun read! I plan to purchase the series for my future classroom. :) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
