The ugly duckling is a wonderful book that teaches children a wonderful lesson. This is a book that I remember from my childhood and the message that it teaches. The lesson was that sometimes the ugly duckling turns into the beautiful swan. This is a book that can help child with their confidence. There are many versions of this tale and I am not sure if this was my favorite one. I think that this version is not the most interesting because it has a lot of words and the pictures do no go entirely with the text that is on that page. I feel as though younger children can be read this book but it might take older children to understand the deeper meaning of the story. This is a book that i would recommend when a child is lacking confidence. This tale is a good one but this version is not one of my favorites. ( ) I had mixed feelings when reading this book. I liked the book because the plot of the story was well put together. The conflict of the duck not being accepted is clearly evident. For example, when the duckling was with other ducks they made fun of him and bullied him. "Oh! Look at that ugly duckling -- we don't want him here!" The author makes it apparent to the reader that although no one is accepting the ugly duckling he is still being a good duck. I didn't like the writing in this book. I think that the story of the ugly duckling is really short and sweet but the author seemed to really drag out the story by making numerous events occur. For example, In the story the duckling came across a dog who wouldn't eat him because he was so ugly. This scene goes along with the story but it drags the story a long. Overall, the big idea of the story is to always accept those who are different from you. Not everyone is identical and does things the same. Summary: This story is about an ugly duckling who never fits into his family or community. He goes through a very tough journey to finally find the place where he belongs. Genre: Folk Tale Personal Reflection: I liked this book because the story has a beautiful message-no matter what others say, you can do great things. I really began to feel sorry for the Ugly Duckling when after being tormented by his family and neighbors, he started to eternalized their disgust with his appearance and he thought of himself as worthless. I liked the descriptions of nature and the illustrations. I could really see a young child being mesmerized by this story. Concept: I think this book shares a sentiment that many children deal with, feeling out of place. It also touches on the aspect of bullying, which is an important issue that schools are starting to focus on. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
