Cute picture book. ( )

I thought this book was so cute and just great to read with kindergarteners! You could use the punctuation in the book for lessons, but the book and illustrations also lend itself to many inferring and predicting conversations. The end of the story is great because it's something unexpected and different then what you think Bert is preparing himself for. I'll be adding this book to my kindergarten list!

Bert's unexpected source of apprehension. ( )

Bert perches on a branch, but he's not so sure about leaving it. The reader would think that it's a first flight Bert is preparing for, but it turns out it's actually a jump into water below. His friends below cheer him on when he finally takes the plunge, and his second leap is more assured than his first. Solid, spare illustrations on a background of white space. ( )
