This book provides the reader with information about the links between birds and the ancient creatures that once roamed the earth millions of years ago, dinosaurs. Using a process called cladistics, which is a comparison that shows how two animals are related, Cathy and her team proved that primitive birds and a group of theropod dinosaurs were closely related because they both share the same feature, which is is a sickle claw. This book would be very beneficial in the classroom because it very clearly demonstrates the scientific method. Students can very easily follow allow with Forster and her team and they make a series of inferences, and they begin to solve the mystery of what the ancestors of birds would have looked like. In this book you join Cathy Forster on her expedition where she is searching for pieces to the theory of bird evolution. This book provides pictures and details to give background information on bird-dinosaurs, how to dig for clues, living in the different environment where expedition is taking place, and discoveries made. This is a good book that brings science to life through actual pictures. This book is about a paleontologist named Cathy who takes a trip to Madagascar with her team to uncover some new fossils. The fossil that she is after is one of the rarest and hardest ones to find: bird fossils. She is trying to prove that modern birds are desendants of dinosaurs, and new fossils are the key to discovering the missing link that may prove her theory. I wouldn't personally use this book as a read aloud but it may be helpful to older students who are learning to do research on different topics. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
