A Clean Contemporary Romance Thriller featuring a Small Town Sheriff and Ex Navy Seal Must Unravel the Mystery It has been a while since I have read an Irene Hannon book. I realized that I was behind and so I picked one up. What is a bummer, though, is it felt as formulaic as her others. It's always the story of the hero falling in love with whoever the are helping. Even the endings are the same. I was DYING for something different. What I did enjoy though was the villain. Irene Hannon created a character who was absolutely devious. The way that characters were killed off was inspired. And what was worse, there was no remorse. That is an literary element you expect in secular novels--not so in Christian fiction. I did feel, however, that once the villain was brought down, she ceased to exist. I wanted her narration once more as she had been such a part of the story. It was also odd that there was less of a religious component in "Buried Secrets." I found myself missing that. I've read other books by this author and liked them well enough to put her earlier titles on my TBR list. This is the third earlier series of hers from which I've read at least one book and sadly, all of them seem very similar and use a similar plot outline--which is getting old for me. Just once I'd like it if the woman could be the one who's the rescuer instead of the man having to rescue the woman. There is a bit of a twist to the plot in this book in that both of the main characters are law enforcement--so I was hopeful that Lisa would not end up in a situation where she needed Mac to rescue her. Alas, that particular plot point still happened. That said, I did like both main characters. Mac is a former SEAL, turned police detective who's somewhat new to the St. Louis area. Lisa was a detective in Chicago who is now the Police Chief in Carson. Both have religious backgrounds and both seemed to have been raised by caring parents who instilled good character. I suspect the other two books in this series will deal with Mac's brothers (though I haven't looked at any synopses to confirm that).
Twenty four years ago, a ride that was meant to be a joyride turned into tragedy. A girl was buried in a shallow grave. Who put her there and why? These are the questions Detective Chief Lisa Grant and Detective Mac McGregor are determined to find the answers to. How are they to determine the identity of the dead girl? How much time will it take? See the sparks fly as they get closer to solving the dead girl's murder. As they get closer to solving the murder, are they by chance getting closer on a personal level? What are they finding out about each other? This book is full of suspense, drama, romance. It will keep you turning page after page, you will not want to put it down. What lengths will the murderer go in order to keep the BURIED SECRETS. Onderdeel van de reeks(en)
