I'm obviously not the intended audience for this... because I was frustrated at thre amount of questions I had afterwards. ( ) In this book, Amber meets Anna and her family when they come up the mountain to build a road. Amber sees Anna reading, and Anna become determined to teach Amber to read. They soon become good friends and do everything together, practicing reading every day. When Anna's family is done building the road and they leave, Amber becomes determined to learn how to write so that she can write to her friend. She practices until she is able to write a full letter to send to Anna. This book is a good example of realistic fiction because the setting and events are realistic. The setting is in the rural mountains, which is a real place. As well, teaching someone to read is a realistic occurrence. Age Appropriateness: 1st-4th grade Media: oil paint This realistic fiction book tells the story of amber, a young girl who has never learned to read or write, and how she makes a friend who is determined to teach her. Her friend Anna spends days and days teaching her the different letters and sounds, and finally, Amber is able to read on her own. Anna wants to teach Amber to read, but Anna sadly has to leave because her family had only been in town while her father built a road there. Amber gets letters from Anna, but cannot write back. She then decides she will write back, and practices copying words from her book, and finally writes Anna a letter. This makes Anna very happy, and she writes back as well. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
