What a sweet and lovely romance! Basically it's about a couple (Claire and Jay) who aren't interested in marriage but end up marrying mostly for the sake of their children, and end up falling for each other!

Jay was married in the past to a model, Susie, who eventually left him for one of his business partners. They had one child, five-year-old Heather. Susie never wanted children and when she became pregnant she wanted to abort her baby (Heather). After his bad marriage Jay swore he would never marry again---at least not for love. So Jay is raising Heather on his own. He leaves Heather with the housekeeper a lot when he's away on business. The housekeeper is a mean woman who tells Heather neither her father or her mother want her and Heather is wondering if her father really cares for her. Heather befriends heroine-Claire's six-year-old daughter Lucy and they start spending time together and become best friends. At first, since Claire is being kind to Heather and letting her come over for tea, Jay thinks Claire is setting her sights on him with marriage in mind, but nothing could be further from the truth. Claire isn't interested in a romantic relationship. When Claire was eighteen she was raped while coming home from school which resulted in pregnancy (her daughter Lucy) and she isn't interested in a relationship with a man. Claire confides this to Jay and, through a series of events, they agree on a platonic marriage-of-convenience, for the children's sake. Heather needs a mother and is already fond of Claire and Lucy needs a father. Also, it would provide financial security for Claire and her daughter, and Claire can help Jay out with his business clients.

I really liked how Heather became a happier child (instead of sad and withdrawn) and how she started to gradually come out of her shell and show her love for her father. The two young girls were really sweet together. I also liked the main couple, they had good chemistry. I liked how Claire gradually progressed from being anxious to being close to a man (Jay) to being physically attracted to him. Jay was a good hero. I enjoyed the part when they all spent their first Christmas together.

Another wonderful and heartwarming read by Penny Jordan! It was nice to see everyone get their "happy ever afters". ( )
