This book a very colorful book with captivating pictures. I found this to book to be an easy read because each page had couple sentences on them but none with big words. This is another book with no actual lesson behind it but it is an entertaining book about a farmer liking his yellow lemons and then is stubbled when he finds one red lemon. Its a fun and entertaining book for kids roughly from k-2nd grade. I really liked the expressions in the picture on the farmer and the colors used, makes the book more interesting. ( )

This book is okay. It serves a purpose in teaching readers about the environment and unique atmospheres/conditions. It refers to a farmer who finds a red lemon and does not understand why it looks that way. So, he throws it far away. However, the land where he threw the lemon begins to prosper and grow more than ever. Readers could decide a meaning to this story as it also shows not to judge a book by its cover. It is not my favorite read but the illustrations are detailed and well done. ( )

The Red Lemon by Bob Staake gave me many emotions. It was a book filled with many valuable lessons and fun rhyming schemes. The Red Lemon teaches about emotions and what happens when we as humans can not control our emotions. Staake provides us with an insight into cause and effect relationships when he shows Mcphee throwing the lemon and then years later, his lemon trees are becoming less and less. Throughout this book, he provided many opportunities to practice alliteration and rhyming schemes which I thought was interesting. Although, this book is listed as a children’s book, there are many valuable teaching moments within the story line. This book really grabbed my attention and kept me engaged from the beginning to the end. ( )

My son and I absolutely love books that rhyme. This one is a wonderful rhyme book with a nice moral at the end, "don't judge a book by its cover," or better yet "don't judge a fruit by its color!" I would recommend this to everybody. ( )

I liked this book for two main reasons. First, the illustrations are great. It is no question why this story was named one of New York Time’s Best Illustrated Children’s Books. Staake’s illustrations are very unique. I particularly enjoyed these illustrations because they are almost all made out of circles. Staake manages to make very different things out of circles, such as a man and a tree. The pictures are also very colorful and intriguing. The second reason I liked this book is because of the rhymes and poetry feel. For example, “And if yellow lemons were always a treat, the red lemon versions were six times as sweet!” The use of rhyming makes the story flow easily and entertaining to read. The main message of this story is the value of being unique. If something is different it does not mean it’s bad, but it is special and valuable in its own way. ( )
