"In Christina Dodd's Obsession Falls, Taylor Summers witnesses the death threat to a young boy, and does the only thing she can do--she sacrifices herself to distract the killers. Her reward is a life in ruins, on the run in the wilderness, barely surviving a bitter winter and the even more bitter knowledge she has lost everything: her career, her reputation, her identity. She finds refuge in Virtue Falls, and there comes face to face with the knowledge that, to live her life again, she must enlist the help of the man who does not trust her to defeat the man who would destroy her. 5 stars for the first half of the story and one or 2 for the last half. I love woman in peril and survival stories. I loved the survival element and how the heroine, Summer, was so tough and wily at surviving. Other than her first dopey plan to save the boy she was smart. But the plan was reasonable considering what she had to work with. Everything was great right up until she got to Virtue Falls.

The Virtue Falls part went really wonky. The other characters were okay. I liked Kateri and the sheriff. I was disappointed in Kennedy. His character was very inconsistent and I never really warmed up to him. Was he supposed to be cold and analytical? Impulsive and passionate? Somewhere on the Aspergers spectrum? Insecure and frankly a bit stupid? Well he came across as all of those things.

The ending had me with my WTF? face on. I don't like my heroines to be so wishy washy especially out of the blue at the end. I really don't like them to feel as if going with the bad guy psychopath murderer might be the choice they really want. That that guy might be the exciting life. just WTF?

A final quibble, it sucked that she had to cut her finger off but the author made too big of a deal of it afterwards. Most people don't immediately notice when a person is missing the tip of a baby finger. And also they don't assume that it was a great sacrifice involving just the situation those two people are talking about. ( )

Good thing that these books can be read as stand alone novels because if you missed reading any in this series you can go back and read them now.

I did like this book. However it was one that I had to slowly build up to. The beginning of the story started out good with plenty of action but than it stayed steady with lots of talking. There was no build up to the danger that Taylor was running from. The romance between Taylor and Kennedy was also slow (almost too slow). Yet the last half of the story made up for the first half of the story. There was plenty of action and romance. In addition, to the fact that Taylor proved to be a tough, female woman.

The chemistry between Taylor and Kennedy was real. So when they would have a make out scene, it was hot but genuine. The ending was a bit of a twist. ( )

Christina Dodd returns with her taut suspense-filled Virtue Falls series, with OBSESSION FALLS where readers pick up with designer, and artist, Taylor Summers turned vacation rental concierge, to fugitive on the run— after witnessing a death threat to a young boy—she has to disappear--off the grid, and a deadly game of survival, revenge, and murder.

While Taylor is sketching in the mountains she witnesses two hired killers and a small boy. She distracts them, sacrifices herself, and hides out in a mountain cave. She discovers the town thinks she is responsible for the boy’s kidnapping.

Continuing to hide out, she must survive, while trying to contact the boy’s uncle, wealthy Kennedy. In the meantime, Kennedy is searching for her, and the hit men. All the while she is assumed dead. Kennedy never gives up.

She changes her name and reinvents herself the best way she can in order to survive in the brutal winter wilderness. She is able to survive with the help of her father who taught her survival skills as a child. From breaking into vacation homes, and odd catering jobs for food.

A clever twisted, dangerous game- The killer and the mysterious Kennedy track her down, for a twisty, fast-paced non-stop action thriller. Haunting and captivating at the same time.

A revenge plot. Two men. A finger. Intrigue. Violence. Non-stop action. A heroine. A hero. A villain. Danger. Mystery. Murder. Ruthless. Wicked. Humor. Sexual heat. Romantic suspense. Evil. A compelling gritty series of suspense, mystery, supernatural, drama, and intrigue.

Having read all the books, and the short stories in the Virtual Falls series, this time around, I purchased the audiobook, due to the narrator, January LaVoy (one of my top performers), which of course, added to the mind-blowing intensity with an outstanding performance. Highly recommend audio.

Fans will enjoy catching up with familiar characters from the previous books, while anxiously awaiting next installment-coming back for more sizzle drama, and twists---from creative and talented Dodd! ( )

I read this novel without previous introduction to the series and thoroughly enjoyed it as a stand-alone title. Taylor Summers returns to the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho in hopes she will reignite her artistic dreams and rediscover her muse. But on her first adventure back into the forest that she so dearly loved and explored as a child independently and on adventures with her father, she realizes that unless she does something quickly she will be a witness to a young boy's murder. Without hesitation, Taylor sacrifices her own safety to help the child. Little did she realize at that moment that her life would forever change.

This novel is an action-packed, suspenseful, page-turning thriller with more twists and turns than the most wicked and dangerous roller coaster in the world. Lead character Taylor Summers may at first seem to be merely a lost young woman with a heart full of hurt and loss as she still grieves the loss of her father and after multiple failed relationships, the most recent a broken engagement. Taylor’s inner core of bravery, courage, and resilience are tested beyond ordinary circumstances. Along her journey which leads her to Virtue Falls, Taylor meets some incredible women. I particularly loved the character Kateri Kwinault who has become librarian of the Virtue Falls Library. It was very refreshing to discover a librarian portrayed with such a strong identity and with such a meaningful contribution to the storyline!

When a woman is pushed beyond the expectations of her own measure of endurance it is remarkable what she can achieve. Taylor does not merely want to survive, she wants to survive well. This novel has depth through characterizations, setting descriptions, unique scenarios, and conversations that build and layer the characters to each be the special contributor that their presence is to the story. The excitement builds on every page to various electrifying moments and is an edge-of-your-seat experience to read. It is not easy to close the covers of this novel even when you know the hour is late and the alarm rings without restraint early in the morning.

I was lucky to be invited to read and review this novel and received an autographed, hardcover edition of "Obsession Falls" and the enclosure of a sachet stuffed with lavender grown on the author's property ( )
