"Could a Penguin Ride a Bike? provides a fun introduction into the life of a penguin. By imagining animals in everyday scenarios readers can learn about their size, diet and other features. For example, what if a baby penguin came for dinner? Make sure he doesn't eat everything! Chicks eat, and eat, and eat. An adult penguin eats about 50 fish a day, but a chick needs to eat about 200! That's because chicks grow a thick layer of fat to keep them warm in the icy winter. The engaging question and answer format will keep young readers entertained and help them to understand and retain animal facts"--… (meer)

An adorable book that talks about penguins in a few, flowing manner with coloring illustrations. Great for supplemental a lesson on penguins. I would personally use this book for preschool through younger elementary students. ( )

What if a king penguin comes along for a short visit? How would he cope among humans?
The fun idea offers a hugely entertaining way to learn a lot of interesting facts about the animal. To teach children, that the animal lives in colonies where sometimes up to one million of them live together, is one thing, but to imagine the penguin coming along for an overnight stay and then he can't sleep on his own because he's used to live in such a big group, that's what they will remember. It's a visual image which stucks. Together with the cheerful picture where we see him sleeping in the children's room with his beak and a little cuddly toy tucked under his wings, the kids will also remember how the animal sleeps and have a lot of fun along the way.

A fact file at the end of the book provides a world map, where children can see the locations where the king penguins live around the globe.
And finally my personal highlight. The very last page is a postcard, showing a photo of the real animal and the penguin sending the young reader greetings, now being already back home in his natural habitat and the card offering a short summary of the book's facts.

The cheerful and colourful illustrations tie in beautifully and together with the big print, which is very suitable for young readers, they round the whole thing off to a perfect book for libraries, schools and parents to teach young children animal facts and to help them to retain them.
Highly recommended. ( )
