Excellent YA reimagined Lois Lane working for Perry White as a juvenile. Still solid, stubborn, strong, relentless Lois no matter the age. Well done, Gwenda Bond! Now to get the next book... ( )

I haven't read my way through a book this fast in a long time. It was simply an enjoyable read all around. It's not "action-packed" - it's just a story about a young woman who stands by her very strong principles and fights wrongs when she sees them. She's unafraid to step in when she sees something wrong going on and she keeps the law on her side (when possible). And she's not perfect. She gets through things with charisma and sheer chutzpa and a boatload of smarts. The plot itself was interesting and it was really thrilling to just hope so hard that Lois would succeed. You care about the people she cares for and you want Lois to help them. She's a young woman who people come to respect, and it was fun to see adults seeing her as intimidating and trustworthy and worthy of respect. She doesn't wave her fingers to make problems go away but she GETS THINGS DONE and that was just amazing to see, particularly in a story about a woman. We don't get tons of stories like that.

I'm a bit mixed when it comes to Clark and what might be another Leaguer. I felt like those sections were some of the most interesting and also some of the weakest. Teen romantic drama is always tough to write, and it can be tougher to read if you're not a teen. I never really found a sweet spot in my reading where I actually enjoyed that. It was boring when I was younger and then it just fell flat when I was older. While I'm curious about how Clark is going to stay involved in the story, I was very happy that this STAYED Lois' story, even while I was kind of hoping that he would be more involved. Overall I think Bond chose well to play it out how she did. I can't wait for the next volume. ( )

It was a fun read, but didn't have that extra-something that I was looking for


Lois Lane has just moved to Metropolis. She's determined to keep her head down and her nose out of trouble this time, but on her first day of school, she realizes her plans aren't going to work out. First, she gets recruited as a reporter for The Daily Scoop, an online high school newspaper sponsored by The Daily Planet. Then, she's confronted with a student who's being bullied by a crew of of kids known as The Warheads. The Warheads are disturbingly in sync, apparently due to Worlds War Three, a 3-D reality simulation game, and are up to something more than just recruiting people into their unit in the game. Lois knows something weird is going on, and after what she saw in Kansas one night, she knows weird.



It took me foreverrrrrr to read this book. I'm not actually sure why because I enjoyed the book, it just wasn't as attention grabbing as I'd hoped it would be. The idea (and the cover) is really cool. You have high school Lois Lane and her obvious beginnings of a relationship with Superman (who she knows as SmallvilleGuy, an online man of many secrets). What I liked about high school Lois was that she was a lot more bad ass than the Lois Lane that I know from comics and movies. Sure, she was always a girl with good instincts and plenty of common sense, but she also seemed to be a little bit of a damsel in distress as well. In this book, she's the rock star. She needs and/or wants help at certain times in the investigation, but she's not helpless... and if help doesn't come, she's totally prepared to go it alone. I loved that about her.

What I didn't like about Lois was that she wasn't someone I wanted to be friends with. She wasn't personable in that way for me. She was all rough edges and harsh stances, but I never felt FEELING from her except insecurity about SmallvilleGuy. I was kind of wishing that some other romance would develop for her so that she could show more of herself. Especially since it was obvious SmallvilleGuy was unavailable. I was also hoping for some sort of twist... a friend that turned out to be a traitor or some other major surprise element, but nothing surprising really happened. From the beginning it was pretty clear what The Warheads were up to, and it was just a matter of time before Lois would stop them. I wanted a twist, and sadly didn't get one.

I thought it was a fun book to read. I definitely would tell anyone thinking about reading it to do so. Especially if you're into the Superman stories. I feel like this series has major potential to go somewhere cool, so I think I will definitely look into the future books, but I still can't help but wish this one excited me more.

OVERALL: A book that I liked, but didn't love. Lois Lane was a bad ass, but she wasn't very personable. It was fun to read, but it didn't make me feel anything in any real way. The series has potential, so I think I will read more, and I would recommend people to give it a try if they are interested.

I loved this book. Being a huge Lois Lane fan, I'm so happy to see her spirit alive in Gwenda Bond's book. The story was interesting and I loved the characters - especially her chatroom friend. ( )

I honestly was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. It's fast-paced and I was sucked in from the first page. This is Lois Lane re-envisioned. She's a high school teenager, the constant new girl because of her father's constant moves. But in Metropolis, her dad promises that this was the last move, and begs Lois to stay out of trouble.

I loved this Lois, who is just as savvy and intelligent and headstrong as she is in the comic books as Superman's partner and better half. She quickly falls into old habits of defending others and making an enemy of the school's fascist and social-climbing principle. But she also makes fast friends with some other students and gets a job at The Daily Planet working for their The Scoop, geared towards the teen and youth readers.

There is so much in this book I loved. The plot, first, was super interesting and sped along at a nice pace. I also loved the subplot between Lois and her online friendship with SmallvilleGuy (a very obvious incognito teen Clark Kent) and the subculture of the conspiracy message boards. There's obviously more going on here that meets the eye and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing how that long game will develop. I also loved the cast of supporting characters who make up Lois's life both in school and out of it. And I loved seeing a young Lois's home life, which is never really explored in the comics.

Is this Superman? No. It's not. It's Lois Lane. But at the same time, there is enough of a nod to comic fans to titillate. I'm glad, also, that SmallvilleGuy is actually a key player in this series and not just a character who is mentioned in passing every so often as a reminder that yes, there is a Clark Kent out there.
