The best description for this book/series in 10 words or less:

"Woman struggles to love man because family can really suck."

First off, I absolutely love that the stories of all the Maddox brothers' lives all intermixed with each of their stories. I think it's a unique idea that authors have been more recently been doing with their stand-alone novels by making them into companion novels. You won't necessarily miss too much if you read these books out of order or just read one.

I also love how the story is told through the woman's (Cami) view rather than the man's (Trent) view. It truly shows how hard and what Trent goes through in order to win Cami's heart. It shows his loyalty and love in a very personal way while she tries to wrestle with all the

I love that Cami gets tattoos and how she becomes more of who she is rather than feeling forced to do what her family wanted. I think she's super relatable to a certain demographic than that the other women in this companion series do not come from and deal with.

Trent is awesome when it comes to kids. He is very protective of his little neighbor, Olive, who he acts like a big brother to her. His protectiveness carries to Cami. You don't see tough men like that spend time with kids that aren't their own in books so this was a breath of fresh air.

Cami's family agitated me, but I think this is to show you how strong and independent of a woman she is. She's the only one that is smart enough to remove herself from the detrimental situation. Her father is abusive and an alcoholic who beats Cami's mother, which her mother refuses to do anything. One of her brothers makes her feel obligated to fix his mistakes to save her family from her father's anger.

Trent is often sometimes a little controlling, which is partly because he is extremely protective from an incident in the past. I think this humanizes Trent more as a character because trauma can instill fear and insecurity like in his case.

Jamie McGuire has a new book coming out in August. I started to read it, and it does involve some characters from her previous books. I have not read the Maddox brother series in several years, and found myself trying to remember more around the past reads than the current one. So, I decided to binge read the previous series!

I read Beautiful Sacrifice back in December 2015, so not too long ago. I ended up remembering more about this one than I thought as all the details came back to me within the first chapter. I ended up giving this only three stars the first time I read it. I am not sure why as this was before I was leaving reviews and only star ratings every now and then. I think this was a successful re-read though, as I ended up moving this up to a 4 star. This was my least favorite of the series so far though.

This one follows Taylor and starts with the information around the Hot Shots. I am happy I reached for this one again since the newest book is also following Hot Shots.

Overall, another great Maddox brother read. On to the next! ( )

This shouldn't have had a HEA. Disappointed in some of the choices made here. ( )

Beautiful Sacrifice ruined everything for me.

I absolutely adore Beautiful Disaster, along with the rest of the Maddox brothers (they are like addictions that you can’t get rid off), and I was going crazy with happiness when I got this book, Beautiful Sacrifice. But no! JAMIE MCGUIRE, HOW DARE YOU!!

I was somewhat aware of the plot and what to come (thanks to the dropped hints now and there in book 2 and some of the reviews), and I’m absolutely fine with it, since I was persistently telling my brain it’s friggin’ Maddox, so it will definitely worth it. And I got what I wanted, well, in the first half anyway, until everything started to run down the hill.

The book starts off pretty great, quite unoriginal actually, but great nonetheless. Falyn meets Taylor, hearts buzz, fall in love, and everything is perfect.

Not quite so.

Because here it comes, the part where drama rises and shines. It’s unnecessary, unrealistic, messy, and just straight out pointless. And Falyn’s reaction to everything afterward also irritated me to the point where I actually have to put the book down and do some breathing exercise just to calm myself. Because no matter how hard I think about it, anything I would do if I were her would be the total opposite!

I hate the feeling that this book gave me after reading this, mainly because how disappointed I am. The drama was messy, the choices that were made in this book are unrealistic, and everything seemed pointless. Beautiful Sacrifice is a downfall of the Maddox for me. ( )
