From the beloved author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven comes his most critically acclaimed novel yetâ??a stunningly original tale of love: love between a man and a woman, between an artist and his mentor, and between a musician and his God-given talent.

This was not at all what I expected. But it was good. some parts kind of slow but once you get the to end you will be surprised. ( )

It took a while to get into the book, even though the narrator does a good job and there are enough guest voices at the beginning to keep me curious. it may have just been my mood. However, I still enjoyed Frankie's saga, and I was happy to follow him around the world, be frustrated with him and Aurora, cheer for him, cry with him, etc. The story is well crafted and told in the voice of Music. It is worth sticking with. Especially if you enjoyed Five People You Meet in Heaven, because I think this book shares a few themes with that book.

This book is the life story of a fictional character, Frankie Presto, as told by the Spirit of Music. Frankie is a talented musician who interacts with many of the notable names in music. As the title suggests, contains elements of magic. I found the story very creative. It depicts the power of music to influence our lives. Recommended to readers who enjoy music or music history. ( )

This is my first time to read a book with an unconventional narrator. It quite amazed me, seeing things on a unique point of view. The story itself is superb. At first, I was really interested, then at some point, I became bored that I searched the plot (typical me). I think the story was not neatly wrapped like I have tons of questions by the way of how things happened. The number one mystery to me is the nun, Josefa. I think everything is still clouded in mist to me that I can’t quite understand how she was there all long. Sure, some of her stories did make sense, but some are very vague for me (I might need an additional readings for that). But generally, on an average, I can say that this is one of the stories that blew me away. I would have never guessed the plot twists. There were so many mysteries written, so many characters who were interloped with one another, and so many beautiful lessons. ( )

I didn't much like the last Mitch Albom book I read. I wouldn't have read The Magic Strings if it hadn't been selection for our monthly book discussion group. It seemed weird at first but after a few chapters I began to like it. This book requires some suspension of disbelief. Told by a narrator who is supposed to be the giver of musical talent, sort of a muse. The story follows the improbable life of a great musician. Other famous musicians are encountered along the way. Starts in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and continues to the US up to and beyond Woodstock. ( )
