This short children's book gives a general overview of Jane Goodall and her work with chimpanzees. Although the book does present factual and relevant information, I felt as though it was lacking in some ways. As previously stated, the information given is very general, which in and of itself, I do not find to be a problem as this is a children's book. My issue, however, is that the way in which the book is laid out (the short length and lack of in-depth information) would suggest that it would be an appropriate book for children to peruse independently, without the guidance of an adult. However, I don't find that that would be possible with this book as far as young children are concerned. The book is riddled with dates and vocabulary that very young children would likely not be able to comprehend on their own, despite the timeline and glossary at the end of the book. That being said, I would think that the book would also be too simple and the information too shallow for older readers who could understand the vocabulary and appreciate Jane Goodall's history. I wish that the author had either (1) presented the information in such a way that the book would be more enticing to young (pk-1) readers or (2) provided more detail so that the book would be an appropriate read for children who are a bit older (grades 2-4). That being said, the book would perhaps be a good choice for pk-1 students to read with the help of an adult who is both willing and able to clarify those parts of the book that may be confusing. ( )

A Simple story about Jane Goodall the girl who is passionate about animals, and how her dream of traveling to Africa became true. After meeting Dr. Louis and studying chimpanzee in Tanzania, Jane decided to spend the rest of her life for protection all the animals around the word.

The photos in the story are valuable and appealing. However, there are missing details on page 10 that may confuse the reader about how Jan went to Africa.

Genre: nonfiction book.
Diversity: Conservation animal welfare.

The biography about Jane Goodall is a short picture book that could be a tad bit longer picture book . The story is very straightforward, most likely intentional to speak of her achievements. But the story sped up so quickly throughout the biography that it was as if the photos told more than the text. The text would end a sentence about one of Goodall's key moments in life and instead of building on the previous idea it skips years ahead, right in the following sentence. It feels as if not enough time was put into the story telling ,sadly. The life of Jane Goodall sounds interesting enough to want to learn more from the book's lack of information, at the very least. This book was such a letdown. I love Jane Goodall with all my heart and this book did her little justice. I understand it is meant for a very young audience, but it did very little to let them know what an amazing woman she is. The book did not even explain what chimpanzees are and why they are important. The photos and text at times did not match up (page 6) and the book was so short it glossed over basically every aspect of her life. I do not know why she is an expert or activist after reading this book.

I would not recommend this book for any library.
