Take control of your money-and your life-now.Forget everything you've ever learned about money: this is not your ordinary finance book. Financial journalist Nicole Lapin knows money and has rewritten the rules with this refreshing and accessible guide to understanding money basics written especially for you.Should you buy or lease a car? Should you buy a home or rent? How much do you need to save, and how should you save it? What should you do about your debt? How much should you be spending? What kind of insurance do you need? These are all important questions. But first you need to ask yourself how you want to live and how you will get there. There are some hard-and-fast rules about finance, sure, but when it comes to your money, the only person who can tell you how to spend it is you. With her twelve-step, twelve-month program, Lapin will show you how to create a tailored plan for your finances that makes sense for your income, debt, spending habits, and plans for the future. Along the way, she busts the old money myths that haven't gotten us anywhere and teaches you the ABCs of finance, from assets to zero down and everything in between, all in a language you can understand. The sooner you can speak the language of money, the sooner you can live the life you want. Lapin guides you step by step, first showing you how to make a list of goals, then devising a plan to make sure you achieve them-debt free, worry free, and in control. It's time to stop fearing finances and let Rich Bitch help you face the facts. You're not alone in this anymore!.… (meer)

This book certainly delivers what it promises: a no-nonsense, female-driven approach to taking charge of your finances. Lapin assumes the reader knows next to nothing about money, and patiently explains every concept in detail - from whether to invest in a 401K to how to build an emergency fund.

I'm probably somewhere in the intermediate level when it comes to handling my finances, and I was hoping for something a bit more advanced and less focused on paying off debt and being able to afford your car payments. (Though, hey, no judgement - if that's where you are, this book will be perfect for you!) I would recommend RICH BITCH to any woman just starting out on her own. If you've got a young adult daughter, this would make a great gift! ( )

At this point a lot of these books seem to relay the same type of information, but I still find them beneficial as there's always something new to me to take in and utilize. In this one I appreciated how she broke down buying versus renting homes and all the pros and cons of each; her idea is always that you have to do what's best for you rather than what's supposedly typically done. It was an interesting listen too because it was written in the halcyon days when Obama was still president and no one had any idea of what was coming. ( )

Just to get it out of the way of the review, yes, it took me a very long time to get used to her using this word in nearly every few sentences as I'm not a big person for language, but that said -- this book is beyond on amazing.

I don't know that I went into listening to this one with much in the way of expectations or assumptions about it making me figure things out. Yet since starting to listen to it I've reordered how I handle my autopay, my credit cards, my planning. I got in touch with a long term planner (retirement, stocks, bonds, IRA's, etc) because of some of the things she said. I reordered and added to my 1-3-5-10-lifetime goal sheets from my Rituals for Living Dreambook, so that I could be planning for retirement, when to be able have how much on hand for projects, when I'd like to be paying what annually to my two favorites charities, and on and on.

Definitely recommending it to anyone wanting to look into handling their finances, in a simple, no punches pulled, no crazy complex indecipherable lingo, and a lot of happy, but hard hitting, true to the world, facts and plans. ( )
