I initially started this book ages ago, but couldn't get past the first chapter. Warning: it is all written in Scottish dialect. Not Gaelic, dialect.

Easy enough book to read. Typical romance novel, no difficulties understanding the plot, and hint of a love triangle. Not the kind of book I would usually read, but ok for a change of pace, and to finally get it off my Kindle. ( )

An enjoyable enough read. Once I got past the use of Och and Mayhap and automatically replacing them with the present day equivalent it was bot bad. I love this period of time, so there isn't much you can do to ruin a book, unless you write like a thesaurus threw up!!! Lol! ( )

My favorite part about this novel was the Scottish brogue. I felt thoroughly immersed in the story. I read this whole series once ten years ago and actually started dreaming in Scottish. The novel is actually 4.5 stars. The ending started to lag, when you really wanted the characters to figure out who the villain was. And Niall and Anne were both a bit thick headed and distrustful, but I loved the banter between them.

Reader Rated 15 for mild sensuality and moderate violence. ( )

Set in 1563, this is an interesting story about Scottish clan history; a bit drawn out in parts, but good characters and a satisfying love story. ( )

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: n the harsh Scottish highlands of 1564, superstitions threaten a truce . . . a traitor plans his attack . . . and a new love is born.

An arranged betrothal was never the course Anne MacGregor imagined her life would take. Yet when her father explains that her cooperation is the only way to bring about the long-sought truce between feuding families, Anne has no other choice.

A simple ceremony pledging Anne's hand in marriage after one year of commitment is the only seal to the promise of peace. But when the arrangement requires the reluctant Anne to follow Niall Campbell back to his home, she soon discovers that peace is not so easily achieved. Before they even arrive, rumors about her abound, and her safety is threatened. Meanwhile, Niall's ascension as leader of his clan is in jeopardy, as a traitor works to bring about his downfall.

As Niall and Anne begin to see beyond each other's defenses, love takes them by surprise. But will it be enough to defeat their foes? Or will the truce be broken, their lives forfeit, and war return to their beloved land? ( )
