In this stunning sequel to A Thousand Pieces of You by New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray, Marguerite must race through various dimensions in a desperate attempt to save the boy she loves.

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross through to alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverseâ??even hurt the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked, and his consciousness is scattered across multiple dimensions.

The hunt for each splinter of Paul's soul sends Marguerite racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris, where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret.

I definitely enjoyed this one better than the first. I found some of the characters more likeable (especially Theo. He didn’t annoy me like he did in the first book) though I have mixed feelings about Margerite. I’ve got to be honest towards the end it felt like she made some pretty dumb decisions. For example, for someone who is desperate to collect the pieces of Paul’s soul trying to save Theo who may currently be DYING in her dimension she sure had no problem hanging out in some dimensions unnecessarily long (namely the one where she was in Paris and also the Triadverse afterward). However as before it was really fun to explore the different dimensions and versions of the characters.
Unfortunately I still found the plot to be weak. Wyatt Conley’s motivations to splinter Paul’s soul simply to get Marguerite’s cooperation just didn’t seem to make much sense to me. It seems like a lot of effort to go through when he could get literally anyone else to do his dirty work for him. He’s already shown he doesn’t care about the other worlds so it’s not like he’d be concerned about the effects of an excessive use of Nightthief. Tbh this book definitely came across as your typical filler second book of a trilogy. The first book sets everything up and I’m sure the final book will tie everything up and include the climax while this book has a very weak plot just to pad for time and doesn’t really add much to the over arcing storyline.

Overall: A decent book. Better than the previous. I’m undecided if I want to read the final book but maybe I’ll get around to it one day if for no other reason to resolve the cliffhanger I was left at! ( )

First off, I am not a fan of cliffhangers. They totally turn me off and if I know about them in advance, I generally don't read that series or at least put it off until all the books are out. So be warned if you don't like cliffhangers either.

As for the plot, it took me a bit to get back into this story. The first part of the book was slow. So much so, that I even contemplated abandoning the book. In the end I struggled on and really liked the second half of the book. The pace picked up and there were some twists that I enjoyed. So in the end I got sucked back into the story.

Another problem with this book is the character of Marguerite. I felt she was too young for the story. She should have been at least 25. Her actions just did not fit her age and that bugged me.

On the plus side, I adored the narrator. One of the few that does a good job with the voice of the opposite sex. 4.5 stars for narration. ( )

Want to know if the whole series is worth reading? Read my overall review of the whole series at seriesousbookreviews.com! Spoiler Free!

I was really curious to see what was going to happen next given the ending of the last novel. The plot for this one was interesting for sure and I really like the direction it is going. However, I did feel it lull a bit in the middle. I found Marguerite annoyed me a little in her outlook on things and that frustrated me. At the same time, I can appreciate the situation she is in and I liked how she grew from what happens. I was worried that that love triangle would escalate into a situation that I wouldn't like but, again, I think it worked for the story and it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I really like the way the story progressed though. I thought I have everything figured out but those twists again kept me on my toes. Can't wait to see how this all wraps up!

Hmmm... I don't really like Marguerite. I don't remember how I felt about her in the first book but her replies seemed childish many times this time. Maybe I didn't realize that until now. The story was pretty good and creative, I loved the cliffhanger! ( )
