The hits just keep on coming for Tessie Marie Harlow. She has never had an easy life. Her mom disabled, her dad long gone, and a single mom raising a rambunctious little boy, that's her world. Her childhood aspirations to be a nurse disappeared after a college spring fling both blessed and burdened her with a baby boy. Dropping out of school, she returns to her hometown and begins to settle in. Getting the only job she can as a bartender, she spends her days caring for her son and nights serving the Hellions Motorcycle Club and their affiliates. Andy "Shooter" Jenkins has always been around. Too wrapped up with raising Rex, Tessie has never really noticed him before. He has never been loud or known to have the girls hanging all over him. He is a mystery. A chance encounter brings him to her rescue not once but twice. The members of the Desert Ghosts Motorcycle Club are in town and bring their own brand of chaos right to Tessie's door. Forced into her day-to-day life, Shooter is doing everything he can to shelter and protect her as lines are crossed and a war between two clubs begins. Contains mature themes. I think many women can relate to at one time being a man’s booty call. Knowing that was all he was really looking for but yet we allowed it due to the familiarity and the convenience. This was the case between Tesse Harlow and Rex Crews, a member of the Hellions MC. At the start of this book Tesse has decided she’s had enough and cuts things off with him. And when something unimaginable happens to her its another Hellion that turns out to be her savior – Andy “Shooter” Jenkins.
Shooter has never like the casual way Rex treated Tesse, always flaunting and doing other women in front of her but it wasn’t his business to say anything. Now that she has broken free and comes to need help, he is there for her and her son and her mother who has MS. But Shooter has a few demons from his past that make him think he will never be good enough to be someone’s significant other, but when the horrible thing happens to Tesse he waste no time in claiming her has his ol’ lady so she can get the protection of the club she needs. This is where the healing process for both of them starts.
There is a big secret that Tesse been keeping from everyone that is brought out in the open which causes conflict at first but also helps one person see the wrongs he has done and starts him on a better path. The tie in to the other series was great to see especially since I had just finished reading
Stripping Her Defenses by Jessie Lane which also introduced the characters that are going to be in a new series both written by Jessie and Chelsea.
