You only really get what is going on here if you have followed John Scalzi's blogs/twitter accounts and seen some of the mess thrown at him there and also via taunts on (I refuse to say that guy's name, he's a wanker) website where he has a list of things that he emphasizes all of the time that he always claims that John Scalzi has lied about. I personally don't take Social Justice Warrior as an insult. Some people use it that way because apparently people actually giving a shit about something is somehow wrong? I don't know. I just know that SJWs was thrown around a lot last year during the whole Rabid Puppies insanity that became the science fiction community's focus for about 6 months. I am hoping we don't have a repeat this year. I am sure that's too much to hope for. I didn't shell out the money for the narration (now I wish I did) but just cracked up at the chapter titles like "John Scalzi Does Not Understand Satire As Well As I Understand Satire" and "John Scalzi's Blog Is Not That Interesting And No Reads It." The way the whole thing is written is just a stream of consciousness from someone who is 100 percent obsessed with John Scalzi and doesn't see how he is totally out of his depth with some of his conclusions. If the title seems a little out there, there's a reason. Theodore Beale, a.k.a. Vox Day, leader of the Rabid Puppies faction in the slate attacks on this year's Hugo Awards for science fiction and fantasy, has been a bit obsessed with John Scalzi. He also rants a good deal about "SJWs"--"social justice warriors," who according to him and his friends are destroying science fiction by liking things the Puppies don't. Recently, he's released a book, promised for at least two or three weeks beforehand, entitled SJWs Always Lie: Taking Down the Thought Police, under his his online name, Vox Day. You can find it on Amazon, no problem. Or you can get this book instead. It's a lot more fun. This is a parody, a total send-up of Vox Day's book. SJWs Always Lie has two chapters 5; John Scalzi is Not a Very Popular Author has three chapters 5! Bonus! Theo Pratt (a.k.a. Alexandra Erin) reveals the true evil of the dread John Scalzi as Vox Day never truly can. His deviousness! His SJWness! His obviously terrible $3.4 million, ten-year contract with the equally dread Tor! You can purchase the Kindle edition here, or true fans of the absurd can listen to the audiobook, read by John Scalzi, here. Why did John Scalzi read the audiobook version? To raise money for a science fiction fandom charity, Con or Bust. Click the link for the audiobook, and you'll find more information about Con or Bust, the fundraising, and the other bonus coming from Scalzi: a song he's commissioning, about his noted Not Very Popularity. (If you hate GamerGate and Rabid Puppies and either hate or just pity Sad Puppies this is really the book for you. Definitely had me giggling, because not a single word in this book is outside of the realm of things these lovely folks have said or expressed.) ( )
