Informational Picture Storybook
Stein’s book is a detail-oriented synopsis of the Lewis and Clark expedition. It briefly describes the two men and the planning of the journey, then jumps right into it. The author’s true admiration of the “Corps of Discovery” exploration party rings through in his account of the daily perils they faced. The book does a nice job of describing the various tribes of Indians that Lewis and Clark encountered. Unfortunately, I found the illustrations to be rudimentary and unimpressive. Such a great story would be better suited with a more attractive visual aid.
This book gives a good account of Lewis and Clark, and provides sufficient factual information about the journey for a study to give a report on it. It would be useful in a social studies class or for free reading. ( )
