I wanted to like it based on the description, but found it took far too long in the story before the characters got even slightly involved. Not a book I would read again ( ) I'm really not sure what to think about this book. It was... not capitvating. As I already said, I'm no fan of books that start with someone shooting at something just for fun, but I didn't just have a bad start with this book, it simply didn't get better. C.A. Popovich's style is very descriptive and detailed but I felt like the plot itself somehow got lost in all those details. I didn't care for a single part of this story. Not for the plot - as far as there was any distinctive plot at all - and also not for the characters. I just didn't care. And that's just not good, reading a romance and not caring about what happens to the characters simply doesn't match. Also there was way to much drama for my taste, it just seemed overdone. I think that one of the most often thoughts I had about this book was -aww-- the parts with the pets and even the parts with the horses were so well done. (And yes, that's probably not what my foremost thought was supposed to be while reading this romance, but, what can ya do). It's the story of Kristen and Jaylin. Jaylin is a small pet Veterinarian who starts working for a large animal Vet (mostly horses). He, Bill, asks Kristen to work with Jaylin as her Vet tech until Jaylin can get settled in. Of course, since this is a romance novel they get closer and closer, but they both have things that they need to overcome before they can think of starting a new relationship. It's an interesting struggle that both of them go through on the page too. Fun to read for sure. I really liked the characters. They were all different and all jumped off the page at me. And as I said above, the descriptions of the dogs and cats were great. I also liked all the sometimes hilarious stories concerning the animals that Jaylin saw in her practice. From the owner who didn't know her dog was pregnant, to the heartwarming owner and her disabled dog. They were all cool. And then there was Kristin's father's subplot. It was really well done and even though I have a hard time reading stories about characters were Dementia this one seemed a tad bit easier to read It was an all around good read and an enjoyable one too. I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
From Great Danes to Pomeranians to polydactyl cats, in the rural town of Novi, Michigan, veterinarian Dr. Jaylin Meyers treats them all. But being brought up in the foster care system, she's learned not to count on anyone staying around. New vet tech Kristen Eckert has no time for a relationship. She'd much rather take care of horses, shoot skeet, or ride her Appaloosa. Their mutual attraction takes them both by surprise, and they are drawn into a relationship. But Jaylin is frightened by the idea of relying on someone else and withdraws. When Kristen is injured in an auto accident, can Jaylin find the courage to risk her heart with Kristen or will she let her chance at love vanish forever? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
