My highest compliment for any story is if I would read more in that world, read more with those characters. Yes. Yes I will. I guessed the end but it didn't matter. Well done! ( ) A deft, humorous contemporary fantasy novella with a number of hilarious twists (and a warning for coulrophobes). I'd have loved more time spent in Lena and Darren's space, so I'm hoping further installments in the series deliver that! Pro tip: grab a super-size quantity of your fast food of choice before reading. Well, this isn't generally my cup of tea: I'm not given to reading contemporary fantasy/adventure books. I was tempted to give up early on. But, the book was given to me, for some reason I can't fathom, and I decided to persist. It turned out ok. I'm not sure I'd read another book like this, but who knows? Anyway, we have two young people skilled in culinary arts, Darren Vargas and Lena Tarr. They were high school chums and are room mates, but not "a couple". They find themselves to have been blackballed by the culinary industry, but it's not clear why. Just as they're at their wits' end, they get a call from a famous chef, Byron (Bronko) Luck. Bronko needs some help in his catering business. They have a big dinner to put on for two competing gangs of demons. Real demons, like the ones from hell. The demons, it seems, wish to dine on angel flesh, as in an angel from God. They've even procured one such angel. But, some of the cooks aren't sure they're willing to cook up an actual angel and wonder if they can fake the taste in some way. So, they figure out what bizarre taste they need to reproduce, which leads them to an underground cavern in which a host of zombie clowns are employed by a fast food business. Something like that. Weird, but sort of fun. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: In New York, eating out can be hell. Everyone loves a well-catered event, and the supernatural community is no different, but where do demons go to satisfy their culinary cravings? Welcome to Sin du Jourâ??where devils on horseback are the clients, not the dish. Praise for Envy of Angels: "Matt Wallace tells a raucous, riotous tale of culinary madnessâ??a jaw-dropping horror-fantasy restaurateur Thunderdome that makes the 'monkey brain' scene in Temple of Doom look like something you'd see on Nickelodeon. It's like I dropped a heroic dose of acid and turned on the Food Network for eight hours. It's funny and demented and sticks in you like a pinbone. Matt Wallace writes like someone just jammed a needle full of adrenaline in his heartâ??and then, in yours. From this point forward, I'll read anything this guy writes." â??Chuck Wendig, author of Blackbirds and Zeroes "No one makes me think, 'Dammit, I should have thought of that!' like Matt Wallace. The Sin du Jour series is something I read with equal amounts of envy and delight." â??Mur Lafferty, Campbell Award winning author of The Shambling Guide to New Yor Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
