In this book, there is a lot of different things going on. There are rhyming and then there is no rhyming. There is repetition in the poems that are in this book. Another thing that is in this book is end rhymes in the poems. Finally, there is a voice of poetry that is in the poems that are in this book. The voice of poetry that is in the poems is conversation. In this count, you would find that it is dealing with counting, which can help students to be able to count and see what can rhyme with those words. On each page in the book, at the end of each poem there is the place where the poem was created at. One thing that really stood out to me was the spelling for some of the words are the same as it would be in English, that's because of the origin of where the poem was written. The drawings really show the different types of cultures that are in the book. Each poem and drawings are descriptive and shows readers what each poem really mean and stands for. For each poem, the drawings show exactly what the poem is trying to say. ( )

Summary of book: This book has lots of different counting and singing throughout the pages. Each page is based off a different island such as Cuba, Jamaica, and the Virgin Islands. These songs represent different songs in the location similar to songs like Americans sing for example one page sings about bananas on a line and it starts with ten of them and at the end of the song there is one. This song is similar to the ten monkeys jumping on the bed.

Personal Reflection: I remember growing up and jumping on my own bed singing this song with my siblings. I like this book in an educational view point with teaching young children how to count and even learning rhyming words as well. I myself had to reread a lot of the lines, because I hard a hard time reading the authors accent.

Extension Ideas: One idea for the classroom is to have the class write our own song and demonstrate them in front of the class. Another idea is to learn about one of the islands listed in the book into more detail.

This is a compilation of rhymes from the Caribbean Islands. The rhymes are from the Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad, Cuba, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Tobago, and Martinique. All of the rhymes are about island life and contain counting. One of my favorites is about bananas hanging on a line. The rhyme talks about things happening to them (a bird eating one and that left nine). They go from ten bananas to one. It was the same concept of 10 Little Monkeys. Another favorite was a rhyme about a little girl skipping rope. She skips from one up to ten.

I enjoyed the book. It is neat to see the rhymes that children from another culture learn to help with counting. The illustrations were simple and colorful.

Some classroom extension ideas would be to read some of the rhymes to go along with a multicultural theme. We would sing 10 little monkeys and then I would introduce this book to teach the class that children all over the world have counting rhymes. I would then have the class pick an overall favorite rhyme and we would learn it, put it to music, and perform it together.

This book teaches numbers to little children. It keeps counting to ten over and over. But the really neat thing about this book is everytime it counts to ten it talks about different cultures of the Caribbeans like the Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad, Cuba, Jamaica, Dutch West Indies, Virgin Islands, Tobago, and Martinique. It is really colrful. I think it will teach children to be open to other cultures and accepting of different wys of life. This would be a good way to introduce different cultures life to small children. As a teacher I would want to find literature about people that live in the caribbeans and a poem or something else to go with it.

A Caribbean Counting book is about different things on the island. It is written like a caribbean person is telling the story about bees, cocconuts, and other objects you would see on an island. The book is a counting book so it rhymes with the objects adding in numbers.

This was a cute book. Not one that I would choose to read to my class though.

In a classroom students could write a poem using numbers. That could also tie into a math lesson if it were in 1st grade or kindergarten.
