Dated, but I enjoyed thinking about the puzzles as I read them. Each chapter was originally published as a column in a magazine, and the author added a few paragraphs describing the responses he received, as well as the answers to the puzzles. ( ) Indeholder "Indledning", "1. De fem platoniske legemer"; "2. Tetraflexagoner", "3. Henry Ernest Dudeney, Englands problemkonge"; "4. Talrødder", "5. Ni problemer"; "6. Soma-kuben", "7. Topologisk afslapning", "8. Phi: Det gyldne snit", "9. Aben og kokosnødderne", "10. Labyrinter", "11. Underholdende logik", "12. Magiske kvadrater", "13. Det tossede Tivoli", "14. Endnu ni problemer", "15. Eleusis: Et induktions-spil", "16. Origami"; "17. Kvadratets kvadrering", "18. Mekaniske puslerier", "19. Sandsynlighed og flertydighed"; "20. Mystiske Mr. Matrix", "Litteraturfortegnelse". Glimrende og inspirerende samling af artikler fra Scientific American. More topography, but also more fun diversions. The chapters came from columns he wrote in the late 1950s and it's funny what a generation later turned out: back then, the only other popular die than the standard six-sided cube was an octohedron (he was talking about Platonic solids). The 1970s introduced the world to Dungeons and Dragons and the eventual standardization of D20 games. Dice packs still come in the five Platonic solids. I remember playing Bridge-it a lot at a friend's house and loving it. Indeholder "Indledning", "1. De fem platoniske legemer"; "2. Tetraflexagoner", "3. Martin Gardner continues to delight readers in Origami, Eleusis, and the Soma Cube, which is the second volume in the new Cambridge series, The New Martin Gardner Mathematical Library, based off his enormously popular Scientific American columns. He introduces young and old readers alike to the Generalized Ham Sandwich Theorem, origami, digital roots, magic squares, the mathematics of cooling coffee, the induction game of Eleusis, Dudeney puzzles, the maze at Hampton Court Palace, and many more mathematical puzzles and principles. Now the author, in consultation with experts, has added updates to all the chapters, including new game variations, mathematical proofs, and other developments and discoveries, to challenge and fascinate a new generation of readers.
