This book encourages children to accept and respect other children with different skin color and ethnicities. This book teaches students about racism and the kind of emotions one feels when they are affected by racism. In addition, leaves children with the lesson that we all may look different from the outside but we are all the same in the inside.

The skin i'm in is a children's picture book that talks about the issue of racism and what it is and what it looks like. They talk about the affects racism and bullying has on a child/ other person. I think the book did a great job of explaining and defining what racism is. For these reasons i though it was overall a good book. The skin I'm in uses tone to show that the book is serious and not just a joke. By making the book a serious tone children will see that it is not supposed to be funny. The theme of the book is what racism is and how it should not be used. The book shows how unfair racism is and the effects it may have on a child.I believe that this may be a contemporary realistic book because it fit the criteria about being an important topic to discuss in a classroom, as well as representing different cultures and it is socially significant. This is a wonderful book to teach smaller children the importance of not judging others based on the color of their skin, and the emotions that can occur if an individual feels that they are being discriminated against. As an adult reader of this book, I often found some of the points the author was trying to get across as very either/or, with not much room for middle ground. Yet, this would be a great book to read to smaller children, perhaps preschool aged, to begin a discussion on why racism is such a cruel and savage part of some people's nature. ( )

I liked this book. Its about encouraging children to love themselves regardless of their skin color. It is a great book that encourages not only loving themselves but helping others to love themselves too instead of talking and looking down upon each other. Its a great book for helping children to realize no matter what we look like on the outside, we are all the same on the inside.

This book teaches children they should love themselves regardless of their skin color. It encourages them to uplift one another instead of using racial slurs and other hurtful thing to someone of a different colors. on the outside we look different but on the inside we are all the same. Join together and be one.
