This book began with a general overview of different weapons, then led to weapons from the ancient world, such as the ancient Egyptian and Greek weapons. An example would be the Egyptian long sword and Greek spears. There was also armor showed here, made of crocodile skin, or perhaps bronze. Then it showed weapons from the Middle Ages, like European and Asian staff weapons. A war hammer or perhaps a mughal mace will be your weapon of choice. After that, there are the early modern world weapons, which introduces European rapiers and crossbows. There a several different types of rapiers, like the cup-hilt rapier, and a few different crossbows as well, like the German stone bow. Samurai are also introduced here, providing examples of their armor and weapons. The Revolutionary period came after that, featuring weapons such as the European and American bayonets. There were many blade options to choose from for your bayonet, such as the trowel bayonet, perfect to aid you with digging. The final period is the modern world, where newer guns, like sniper rifles, were used. Sniper rifles have grown and evolved since 1914, from the Mauser Gew 98 to the Walther Wa 2000.

I liked reading this book because it was about information I have not known much about before. I learned more about the history of modern weapons and important groups of people contributing to the use of new weapons. The swords were my favorite weapons to look at, because there was so much variety and many different designs! I was also fascinated by how all the different weapons and pieces of armor could tell a little bit of history, and not just some facts about the weapon or armor itself. I liked the way the book was formatted, although as the weapons got bigger, the pages seemed more cramped and not as easy to read. I feel the title could have a better name though, because not just weapons are covered in here, but also armor and people who used the weapons and armor. Even though this book was filled and heavy, it was a good break from fantasy and a new experience. ( )
