I liked that this book was more about the relationship between the dog and the girl than the disability involved. It's not until the very end of the book that you find out exactly what happened. ( )

This touching story is about Lola and her guide dog, Star. Lola was very sad and afraid to do things out in public since she lost her eyesight 5 years ago in a car crash. Her dog has helped her accomplish many of her fears and has even made her do things she never thought she would do. As I began to read this book, I thought everything that was being described was about the dog until the last few pages of the story explained who the story was really about about and what had happened. This is a great book to explain to children that friends come in any species and that they can still be helpful. ( )

I LOVED this book. Lola and I by Chiara Valentina Segre is about a girl and her seeing eye dog. It tells you how her seeing eye dog got her through some of the worse times of her life. Lola was in a bad car accident that left her blind. At first, I thought the girl was the narrator, but turns out that the dog, names Star is. I definitely recommend this book. ( )

This book is about a girl Lola, and a dog who became best friends and ultimately saved one another. Lola saved her from a not so good life when she was younger, and it took her a little time to come around and not be so scared of every little thing. They became best friends and went everywhere together. I liked how this book was a little different than most books, the dog is the one telling the story about Lola and herself. One day, Lola tragically lost her eyesight in a car accident and now the dog had to go to training to become a service dog for Lola. This is when we learn the dogs name, “star”. I really liked this book and plan to read it to my future students. ( )

The author of 'LOLA AND I' has written this story in a unique way in that the reader does not know if the account is from the dog's or the girl's perspective because each page is written in a way that the thoughts and words could be coming from either. Toward the end of the book, the reader finds out the Lola is a young lady who was injured in a car crash and was left completely blind. This book is an inspiration that addresses tragedy as well as those dealing with a disability. Initially, we see that she has been dealing with the depression from the loss of her eyesight but Lola adopts a seeing eye dog and begins to regain her everyday life. Each illustration captures the emotion of the characters and is beautifully crafted to hold the reader's attention. ( )
