I read about half in one day and the other half way later on another day. I skimmed through quite a bit. It was honestly just kind of boring which bummed me out because it looked so cute! ( ) This is a lovely, gratifying collection of perspectives on what it's like to fall in and out of love as a geek girl and that how we choose to love is A-OK. The representation is super inclusive and spans a lot of geekery. There were a few essays I chose to skip when they pertained to a certain kind of geek life that I don't participate in and had a harder time following, but almost all the other essays were SPOT ON. The secret loves of geek girls. What an excellent collection. I liked just about everything in it. Tons of great artwork, cute anecdotes, interesting takes on life lessons, and stories that really hit home. A forewarning for anyone who might not be super open-minded: Many of the stories and comics deal with lesbian relationships (and bisexual, trans, polyamorous, etc., but mostly lesbian). Take them and appreciate them for what they are--beautiful stories of love, loss, and self-discovery. The fact that they're not the "standard" straight relationships has no bearing on how beautiful the stories are. Just take it from a straight girl who found them exceedingly lovely. So many topics are touched on here: fitting in, growing up geeky, finding love when you don't even love yourself much, long distance relationships, growing out of the idolizing-fictional-characters phase (or not), and a bazillion other things. I think the longest entries were maybe 6 pages, so it's easy to just pick up this book and read a few stories or comics when you have a couple of minutes.
