Jack Hamilton is in charge of running the family amusement park, Starlight Point, after the sudden death of his father. He also learns that the park is in debt, a fact his father kept hidden from the family. In order to keep the park on its feet, Jack must cut jobs and raise the rent of the lease-vendors for the season. This doesn't go over well with the vendors, especially pretty new vendor Augusta "Gus" Murphy who is leasing three locations in the park for her bakeries. The vendors think Jack is just being greedy since they are in the dark about the financial troubles of the park. They decide to fight Jack with Gus as their leader. It doesn't help matters that Jack is finding himself quite enamored of Gus.

This was a very enjoyable story with a wonderful setting that's hard to beat--an amusement park by the lake. The characters were extremely likable and appealing with Jack trying so hard to save his family's park, and Gus torn between her newfound feelings toward Jack and trying to do right by her fellow vendors who have become like family to her. I also really liked Jack's best friend, Mel Preston, the park's chief of maintenance, and I'm looking forward to his book which is next in the Starlight Point series. This was a very heartwarming story with a sweet romance and it's a perfect summertime read. ( )
