In the second spin-off from the ‘Sumeria’s Sons’ series that focuses on Magi/Lycan Gregori and his lover, the Lycan Juan, I was happy to see more of their lives together. I was not happy to see their romance threatened, as it has barely started (see ‘A New Beginning’). But how can I resist a story set in one of my very favorite worlds? Plus I figure it’s a good way to get me in the mood for the release of the next book in the main series a few days from now—‘Surrounded by Crimson’—not that I really need much preparation. This installment is told first by Juan, and it was interesting to see his point of the events in more detail; then Gregori follows and it rounded out everything perfectly.

Juan is a proud warrior, very much in love with Gregori, but he isn’t very sure of himself. Stan, a strong alpha and Gregori’s ex, is messing things up with his desire to win back Gregori. Juan hates him with a passion, especially when he starts making noises about wanting Juan gone. But Juan is too honest and concerned for Gregori, so he wants to leave the choice to him. Not that there really is a choice, but Juan doesn’t seem to want to believe that Gregori has already decided. But then Gregori takes matters into his own hands, and their passion explodes across the pages. Gregori doesn’t stop there, and some of the information that followed had my jaw drop. As intense and action-packed as the volumes on the main series are, these spin-off books can definitely hold their own in the information department. Wow!

If you like the ‘Sumeria’s Sons’ series, if you want to find out more about Juan’s love for Gregori, and if you’re looking for a read that is as full of revelations as it is hot, then you will probably like this short story. I think it’s yet another great spin-off/addition to the series! ( )
