As the title suggests, this is a confortable book to read. I remember when Ike was President, have visited Abilene at least three times, and have visited Mamie's birthplace in Boone, Iowa. Also, my husband's military tour took us to Europe. I could relate to times and places he mentions, making these stories seemingly casual and enjoyable.

It was also interesting to read the background information and behind-the-scenes stories of major events and to read about Ike's disappointments and how his thoughts about his future conflicted with what the military decided he would do. (

I found this pitch-perfect, and am now interested in his other memoirs. The parts from his soldiering life rival US Grant's terrific memoir. (

This is a fascinating read with a down-to-earth writing style. My favorite story is about the tank towing exercises right after World War I.
