"The monumental bestseller Quiet has been recast in a new edition that empowers introverted kids and teens Susan Cain sparked a worldwide conversation when she published Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. With her inspiring book, she permanently changed the way we see introverts and the way introverts see themselves. The original book focused on the workplace, and Susan realized that a version for and about kids was also badly needed. This book is all about kids' world--school, extracurriculars, family life, and friendship. You'll read about actual kids who have tackled the challenges of not being extroverted and who have made a mark in their own quiet way. You'll hear Susan Cain's own story, and you'll be able to make use of the tips at the end of each chapter. There's even a guide at the end of the book for parents and teachers. Quiet Power is a book that I decided to buy after I saw Susan Cain's TED talk on YouTube two years ago.
This book has been on my shelf for a while now and I had picked it up once before this but couldn't bring myself to read more than two pages. I was thinking "What's the point? It's for teens." Nevertheless, I got myself to read it a year later and boy! Am I glad that I read it!
The books talks about being an introvert in a world where being a social butterfly is considered normal, where if you don't speak up, you're left behind. Most importantly, it tells us to embrace the introversion that we have and how to channel it in a way that will make us superheroes.
Susan Cain and her co authors have done a great job in writing a book which is basically an introvert Bible. It discusses various topics like being active in classrooms, to being leaders, to making friends, to using social media to your advantage and battling FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and even recharging your batteries when you run out of your energy by carefully cruising through an ocean of small talk.
I wish I had this book when I was a teenager. I remember freaking out in front of a crowd as a child and avoiding conversations with people and thinking that it's a lack of confidence than thinking that maybe I am an introvert. I couldn't bring myself to ask questions or speak up in class. I don't know if I regret it or not but I made myself speak up and be a conversationalist that I would like to think I am, today.
This is definitely worth a read. Even if it says teenagers, it helped me, a graduate student, a lot.

Great book for introverted kids and teens. As a teacher (and fellow introvert), I found the end of this book particularly helpful with its tips to parents and teachers on how to work with and raise introverted children. I also appreciate that it arms kids with information and understanding so that they don't feel weird or odd because they exhibit behavior that is different from their extroverted counterparts. Kudos to Susan Cain for shedding light on the topic of introverts! I wish I had this information when I was a child. ( )

This insightful, accessible, and empowering book, illustrated with amusing comic-style art, will be eye-opening to extroverts and introverts alike.

This is an insightful book aimed at the 12 to 15 year old and perhaps older teen, particularly if they've been struggling with our "one size fits all" education system. As an extension of the topics covered in 'Quiet', this book focuses on older children and teenagers. I was pleased how readable and engaging the style is. Young teens who have an affinity for the introvert label and/or the HSP designation would benefit from the analysis and strategies. ( )

A sort of self-help book for introverted kids.
Meh. I read this one thinking I might get some insight on how to help my son feel more at ease in loud and crowded settings, but there was nothing earth-shattering here. In fact, there was pretty much nothing that I wouldn't put in the Common Sense category. *shrug* ( )
