Bio The last book I read on Coretta Scott was a poem, and it left me longing for more information. Kathleen Krull's take on Coretta Scott's life was much more thorough. Even at a young age, singing gave Coretta confidence. However, Coretta was a black child during an era where whites had the upper hand. Coretta had no transportation to school, little books in the classroom, and no indoor bathrooms. Despite the oppression, Corretta was able to go to college to pursue her passion for music. It was at Boston University that she met her future husband, the legendary Martin Luther King Jr. They were married shortly after and were activist while trying to fight the three evils: "racism, poverty, and war." They both went about it differently but they went about it peacefully. Martin had his speeches and politics, and Corretta had her concerts. Despite her husband getting assassinated while visiting Tennesse during a protest, Coretta bravely was the face of the protest just days after he died. My favorite quote of this book is a simple, yet powerful one that summarizes who the King's were, "You cannot fight if you have anger." Very powerful read. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
