Trustworthy Loyal Brave: The Hmong Boy Scouts of Troop 100 is a book of oral histories. David L. Moore conducted a series of interviews with the boys in his all-Hmong Scout Troop and with young men who had been in his Troop but had gone on to begin careers and start their own families. The book documents the impact of Scouting on these boys, how it helped to keep them on the right path, but it also shows what wonderful qualities of character, of perseverance in adversity, and of team spirit they brought to their Scouting adventures and to everything they undertook. In an earlier book, Dark Sky, Dark Land: Stories of the Hmong Boy Scouts of Troop 100, Moore documents his Scouts' life in Laos during the Vietnam War, their struggle to escape the country, and the difficulties they had in adjusting to American society. The current book, Trustworthy Loyal Brave can be thought of as a sequel to the earlier story, showing what became of the generation of Hmong youth who first sought refuge here in this new land. Their story is part of the continuing history of America and the struggle of its people to establish and preserve the principles of a free society.… (meer)
