Powerful art and symbolism capture how it feels to be a refugee. Naturally, that is going to feel scary, so assess your child’s ability to process that. The Journey: Primary Colors Pictures go from color to all black. The pictures are hands and it looks like the hands are going to take them away. A war is going on in her village. Her dad dies, and her family friend gets them to escape. They bring a lot of stuff, but things get left behind. “The further we go the more that gets left behind.” The guard takes up half the. Page, and makes the mom and daughter look tiny compared to him. The pictures have a lot of detail with very little color. A great refugee story about fleeing war to be safe. Provides an important perspective for children in first world countries to read about. The subject matter is handled well, in that it is thoughtful, but some of the imagery is quite dark and creepy at times. This is done for effect and helps to portray the real actual danger that children and families who become refugees face. The text offers a lighter context to the darker imagery and shows the power of positive thinking that helps children and families get through the tough times. A compelling read. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
