Events are coming to a climax in the Banished Lands, as the war reaches new heights. King Nathair has taken control of the fortress at Drassil and three of the Seven Treasures are in his possession. And together with Calidus and his ally Queen Rhin, Nathair will do anything to obtain the remaining Treasures. With all seven under his command, he can open a portal to the Otherworld. Then Asroth and his demon-horde will finally break into the Banished Lands and become flesh. Meanwhile Corban has been taken prisoner by the Jotun, warrior giants who ride their enormous bears into battle. His warband scattered, Corban must make new allies if he hopes to survive. But can he bond with competing factions of warlike giants? Somehow he must, if he's to counter the threat Nathair represents. His life hangs in the balance - and with it, the fate of the Banished Lands.… (meer)

Ooooof. This was a long road, and I must say I wondered how it would end. The ending was worthy... even though I'm sad so many characters about whom I cared are lost. Nice going, Mr. Gwynne! ( )

This book I went back and forth on. I picked it up and put it down multiple times. I bitched up a storm while reading it.......getting pissed off at how stuff was turning out. I almost DNF'd it when a few things happened, but after a few days I dug back in and I finished the book. I am rating this 4.5 because of the strong emotional feeling I had while reading this book. You get invested in the people and I was satisfied with the ending. It's not how I envisioned it but the book had a conclusion that many authors forget to do.

Hats off and I enjoyed the series and I will stop complaining now :) ( )

Really enjoyed the conclusion to this story. I, for one, sort of hate the trope that all fantasy series have to be about a giant war that culminates in a huge battle, which is always the last book of the series. This book, however, gave us enough threads to follow in the character's narratives that I felt like I got enough awesome story-telling to negate the fact that this book ended in an epic battle.

Definitely add this series to your list of fantasy reads! It's delightful! ( )

1. So predictable it hurts. 2. Endless forced and implausable situations. 3. Too YA. The draig scene was so childish a 12 yo should have written it less cringy. 4. Bored me to death. Too dragged on. 5. No more character development, everybody behaves exactly as needed to further the plot. 6. Actually, no character feels alive any more, just pure instrument to push the story into preset pathways. 7. Everybody is still running around, running away, running all over the place and then running some more. The third book in a row, so it's way too much of that. 8. No more real plot, just endless battling, not even well described. // Overall a big disappointment and by far the weakest in the series. Perhaps it should have been a trilogy. ( )

For Edward,

I love you, son.

And for Caroline,
my love,
the reason I rise each day.
