I enjoyed the book, she’s awesome and tells funny, vulnerable stories that shows her growth as a person. But I am not the intended audience for this book. I think that had a lot to do with my enjoyment, or lack thereof. It was interesting reading about her growing up and her fun, nerve-wrecking theatre, and movie stories. However, the second half of the book was not for me; most of this book is “I was young and stupid, it’s okay if you are too”. Although I’m not perfect I don’t suffer from the anxiety or self-esteem, or Hollywood surrounded problems Kendrick has/had. At one point she tries to convince us that she is a square. If she is a square, she is an italicized square, sure she gets to work early/on time, and likes following rules – but only the rules she decides she wants to follow. She goes on about underaged drinking, shop lifting, drug-use, and sneaking into parties/raves. Some of this behavior may have been a phase or caused by outside influence, but I can hardly call her square after all that. One chapter was just a description of fake parties she would throw, it was weird, but I did enjoy it. I was just confused by the chapter’s placement in the book. It was like a present tense 30 year old Anna with a house, then the next chapter was a present tense 21 year old Anna that was still immature and living with roommates. Some jokes just didn’t land for me, but I find it difficult sometimes for jokes to work in text, perhaps if it were an audiobook and she read/performed the jokes herself it would be different. The very end of the book was my favorite, there are book club type questions that are hilarious and weird without the context of the book. By far my favorite thing in the whole book, I will write these questions on a post-it note and attach it to my chest for the rest of the day. Example: Question 4: When Anna compares Zac Efron to Charles Manson, is she making a joke or trying to warn us about a potential criminal mastermind? Was hoping for a little more, (she's generally so snarky and sarcastic) thought it would be a little funnier but overall it was enjoyable. I have liked her since seeing her belt out "Ladies Who Lunch" in Camp, and I was so excited to see her rise in fame, and reading this felt like I was taking the trip with her. I really hope she doesn't wait til 70 to write another book. :) How I love Anna Kendrick. Getting to see a bit of her personality in this audiobook made me love her even more. She gives women the confidence to be themselves and to fight for themselves. She admits intensely personal revelations, which helped me to accept my past. In our younger years, we never honestly knew what we were doing, and she made me feel like I was not alone in my youthful stupidity. Her foul mouth and on-point humor had me cracking up on every page. Bless the Kendrick family for supporting her and allowing the world to witness such talent. I highly recommend this for any human 18 and up; there are plenty of great stories and lessons to learn from Anna; it’s a plus if you are socially awkward! I laughed out loud reading this book. If you like Anna Kendrick, you will enjoy this book. Same sassy whit. Definitely recommend listening to this as an audiobook as she reads it herself. It really brings her personality out in full force. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML:The New York Times bestselling collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award??nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect. Even before she made a name for herself on the silver screen starring in films like Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air, Twilight, and Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick was unusually small, weird, and "10 percent defiant." At the ripe age of thirteen, she had already resolved to "keep the crazy inside my head where it belonged. Forever. But here's the thing about crazy: It. Wants. Out." In Scrappy Little Nobody, she invites readers inside her brain, sharing extraordinary and charmingly ordinary stories with candor and winningly wry observations. With her razor-sharp wit, Anna recounts the absurdities she's experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture as only she can??from her unusual path to the performing arts (Vanilla Ice and baggy neon pants may have played a role) to her double life as a middle-school student who also starred on Broadway to her initial "dating experiments" (including only liking boys who didn't like her back) to reviewing a binder full of butt doubles to her struggle to live like an adult woman instead of a perpetual "man-child." Enter Anna's world and follow her rise from "scrappy little nobody" to somebody who dazzles on the stage, the screen, and now the page??with an electric, singular voice, at once familiar and surprising, sharp and sweet, funny and serious (well, not tha Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Kendrick has an enjoyable voice and I was glad to read her book. If you're a fan you'll probably enjoy this immensely. Personally I was really hoping to read an anecdote about Rebel Wilson - whom I'm a huge fan of- but alas, no cookie for me. (
