I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review Wow Wow Wow. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant about this book. Not for any reasons related to the author or story, but it was 400 pages and I knew it would be a slow burn romance. I was worried that the story would drag on. Boy was I WRONG! This story was so well paced. Once I got started, I didn't want to put it down. Cameron and Walker were such great characters. Cameron was a senior in college. He had plans for the future that were already in motion for him to move across the country. He is optimistic, but very clearly happy to be single. He ended up meeting Walker, who is about 15 years older than him, in the coffee shop that he worked at. Walker hates his job, struggles with how to balance being a divorced dad with working, and hasn't been happy for a few years. The guys form a friendship, ignore their attraction for a little while, then decide they might as well enjoy each other for the short time they can. Of course there are challenges and Cameron has his plan to move to California. I loved watching Walker come alive and no longer be complacent. He confronted his ex (which was AWESOME), built a stronger relationship with his son, and fought for his own happiness. It was beautiful to watch. I fell in love with Walker right along with Cameron. Our dreams don't always end up the way we think they will, but sometimes they work out even better. That was the case with these two. I really hope we get to see more of these characters at some point. I absolutely loved them. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

No looking back. That's the motto of college senior Cameron Buckley, whether he's kicking his latest hookup out of bed or plotting out his future as a hit screenwriter. With only a few weeks until graduation, he's ready to put Browerton University in his rearview mirror and start the life he's been dreaming of ever since he was a kid. But a chance meeting with a sexy stranger in a bar throws a wrench into his Hollywood plans. For Walker Reed, no looking back is hard to do when you work minutes away from your alma mater and share child custody with your college sweetheart. Almost fifteen years after graduating from Browerton, he can't stop wondering how he got here. He has an ex who can't stand him, a five-year-old son he can't connect with, and a dead-end job he can't escape. When Cameron and Walker first meet, they know the rules. They know their friendship has an expiration date, yet it begins changing them in ways they never expected. As graduation looms, they both know things can't go anywhere, but they can't keep denying the feelings pulling them closer, even as an offer from Hollywood threatens to tear them apart forever. Cameron admires Walker for being a grown up. Walker is attracted to Cameron's energy and ambition. It brings an unexpected gift to both of them. It's the thing that makes, even rescues, this novel.
I've read Book 1 of A J Truman's Browerton University Series, and it was probably a smidgen better.
The author struck lucky to have the series narrated by Alexander Cendese - he's perfect for these books, which seem to laugh wickedly at themselves.
At the same time A J Truman's story ignited plenty of empathy for the characters. Like the first novel, I like that Out on a Limb delves into real life issues and vulnerabilities - it's a counterpoint to the wicked humour, and elevates the novel.
My impression is that A J Truman will get better and better. There are 7 books in the Browerton University Series; both these were released in 2019.
